Technical Audio Designer - Elite Dangerous

THE ROLE
Frontier is looking for a talented and energetic Technical Audio Designer to join our Audio Team on the Elite Dangerous project, our ground-breaking multiplayer space epic.
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of our award-nominated audio team delivering amazing sounds across the galaxy. Audio has always been a corner-stone of the Elite experience and as the game has developed over the years we continue to push the sonic boundaries and delight players. We are looking for a Technical Audio Designer to help shape and realise the team’s ambitious plans for Elite as it evolves over the coming years. Technical Audio Designers operate on the intersection between audio code and design.
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement and maintain the interactive audio structures that provide the glue between run-time systems and audio assets.
- Set up, iterate on, maintain and extend interactive audio structures in the Wwise authoring tool and other in-house tools.
- Can include audio asset design with a cross-over into the Audio Design role.
- Can be responsible for programming run-time systems that feed interactive audio structures with game data and state (can include programming in C++ with a cross-over into the Audio Programming role. Skills can be developed as part of the role).
- Use your ear for detail and appreciation of audio aesthetic to ensure your work results in a great sounding game.
- Take ownership of audio performance with detailed profiling and thorough testing of in-game audio.
- Optimise interactive audio implementations whilst ensuring game audio sounds good and works as expected.
- Proactively seek out and fix issues present in the existing interactive audio implementations.
- Collaborate with Audio Programmers and Audio Designer’s on solutions when issues are found.
About you:
- Have a methodical approach to work and a desire to bring order out of chaos!
- Strong knowledge of Wwise authoring tool
- Able to work with complex Wwise projects developed at Frontier Developments
- Methodical, technical mind-set to operate complex in-house resources and tools.
- Self-iterate on audio features that require audio code and design
- Technical skills to profile hardware resource usage (CPU, memory, etc) in Wwise and other tools
