Technical Product Owner
San Diego, CA (Rancho Bernardo)
PlayStation is looking for a hardworking Technical Product Owner to manage our Analytics Engineering team backlog and take ownership of an exciting global greenfield project.
The ideal candidate will have a product, data and UX background and help drive the delivery of this strategic project at PlayStation. You will be working closely with globally distributed teams to deliver a game changing business intelligence platform at a global scale. This role will also collaborate closely with product managers to build out a detailed roadmap and work with the engineering team to deliver the agreed features.
This role will be based in our San Diego office and will be required to fit into a highly skilled global team while working with limited direct supervision
Role Responsibilities
- You will Contribute to business outcomes and road map definition, defining system road map required to meet core business outcomes, and creating high quality features and user stories to deliver on those outcomes.
- Maintains the Product backlog using input from Stakeholders and Product Vision, responsible for the building, editing and maintaining of the team backlog encompassing all epics, features, user stories, defects.
- Manage trade-offs between scope and schedule with business demands and ensures business value is being delivered.
- Responsible for ensuring backlog is ready for iteration planning, acting as a subject matter expert on the details and priority of all items in the backlog.
- Provide thought leadership on how scenarios and features will be implemented to the agile development team.
- Ability to manage multiple releases concurrently.
- Strong Partner/consumer management by developing and sustaining strong working relationships with business and engineering teams throughout Sony. Ability to present and represent owned services to senior leadership as needed.
- Ensure deliverables are defined accurately with appropriate acceptance criteria with necessary assets and ensuring final accepted products are of the highest quality.
- Accountable for business use case gathering and definition.
- Accountable for Definition of Acceptance Criteria and User Stories to ensure the delivery team is empowered with the necessary information.
- Ensure that the team always has groomed backlog to pick stories
- Manages and publishes road maps to ensure Partners are informed.
- Participate in team demos and retrospectives, accepting quality work while ensuring constant process improvement throughout the life-cycle.
- Coordinate dependencies across product lines with the product management team.
- Keep abreast with Agile/Scrum/tech best practices and new trends.
- Some international travel may be required (e.g. UK, Japan).
Knowledge and Skills Requirements
- 5+ years agile software product owner experience.
- 5+ years experience working in technical data engineering or business intelligence teams.
- Experience providing requirements for global, large scale business intelligence implementations.
- Experience with the majority of the technology tool-set listed below is desirable.
- Demonstrated experience delivering results in an ambiguous and changing environment, the ability to work independently and be a self-starter. Ability to function effectively under pressure in environments of rapid change and conflicting demands and crisis management.
- Demonstrated experience with continuous improvement, quality methodology and project/operations delivery skills.
- Strong leadership skills and demonstrated creative problem-solving, analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate complex, technical concepts in a clear concise language.
- Strong customer management and negotiation skills and the ability to mediate opposing viewpoints and articulate the advantages of standards in a technical environment.
- Outstanding ability to collaborate, openly communicate, present and negotiate effectively.
- Passion for turning complex data into UX focused, intuitive and performant visualizations.
Technology Experience
- Business Intelligence software (e.g. Domo, MicroStrategy, Tableau, Looker, Qlik, PowerBI, etc.).
- Proficiency with at least one of the following database technologies and familiarity with the others: relational, columnar and NoSQL (i.e. Snowflake, Redshift, Netezza, MySQL, Oracle, MSSQL, Vertica, MongoDB).
- Broad SQL aptitude (querying, modelling, optimization, etc.).
- ETL\ELT experience (large data sets, data architecture, complex data pipelines, management and governance).
- Exposure to a wide variety of business data types (Marketing, Sales, Finance, Operations, etc.).
- GIT\GITHUB.
- JIRA\Confluence.
Desirable Experience:
- Scripting and big data technologies (Java, Python, R, Hive, Spark, etc.).
- Web analytics or a related field (Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics, etc.).
- Data science or statistical analysis.
- AWS\Azure\GCP cloud development
- Japanese language proficiency and working experience strongly preferred
