Technical Operations Manager

Square Enix is looking for an experienced Operations Manager to join our global Online Services Division (OSD) Team

The OSD team focuses on designing and managing the infrastructure hosting public-facing online services, including websites, complex web applications, online game servers and backends, and data analytics platforms.

With the important growth of critical applications relying on this infrastructure throughout the company, we are implementing a “follow the sun” approach with members in London, Montreal, US west coast and Tokyo and on-call activities (24x7).

The OSD team is keen on adopting the latest advanced technologies, and putting in place a DevOps methodology to help in delivering the best games in the industry.

Essential Duties

• Manage on call schedule, follow up on incidents and requests.
• Monitor service performance, report with KPI on incidents and requests resolution and respond to escalations.
• Coordinate the different teams and players for major incidents, including root cause analysis and postmortems.
• Oversee innovation and new infrastructure projects and find areas for performance improvements.
• Balance project load between the DevOps specialists in the team
• Proposes improvements to the team on monitoring, availability, performance, and security
• Manage the employees performance and their evolution and their training plan
• Have a high level understanding on the technologies used by the team
• Day to day management of the team (administrative management, etc…)

• 5+ experience managing a highly technical team (sysadmins / DevOps / SRE / solution architect) for a medium sized company supporting large scale, complex production infrastructure
• 5+ years technical experience working as a sysadmin / DevOps / SRE / solution architect
• Excellent Leadership and Management skills - must be able to coach and inspire junior and senior team members to efficiently drive short term and long-term deliverables
• Experience in a 24x7 follow the sun global environment
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Well-organized, pragmatic, and transparent individual
• Problem solving mentality leveraging internal and/or external resources, conflict resolution
• Strong focus on business outcomes and a service provider attitude
• Service management experience (incident management, change management, root cause analysis, post mortems, etc…)
• Understanding of the following technologies and methodologies (production experience is a plus)
  • IaaS / PaaS Public cloud (preferably AWS and GCP)
  • Container technologies and orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker)
  • Alerting systems, central logging, log analytics, backup and archive solutions
  • Programming or scripting background in one or more of the following languages: python, go, java, scala, r, bash, javascript
  • System automation (deployment and configuration management), ex: Puppet/Chef/Ansible/SaltStack
  • Version control solutions
  • Infrastructure as Code, ex: Terraform, CloudFormation
  • Continuous integration/continuous delivery
  • SQL and noSQL databases, and big data solutions
  • Linux system administration
  • Highly available systems, distributed and clustered systems design.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• Relevant industry certifications (e.g. AWS/GCP certification: DevOps/SysOps/Architect; Linux related)
• Experience of working in gaming industry
• Japanese speaker
