The Java Core team within
Battle.net develops standard libraries and infrastructure to support teams across the organization. We are an internal hub for Java and the Spring Framework and are part of every major game release. We support systems that house hundreds of millions of
Battle.net accounts and handle millions of commerce transactions across all our games worldwide.
As the Technical Lead for the team, you will be crafting the technical vision for your products and libraries. You will lead a team of dedicated engineers, developing scalable and highly performant platform libraries and infrastructure. Your focus will be on server-side engineering and architecture, framework creation, CI/CD deployment infrastructure, and standardizing design and implementation.
We primarily use Java, and technologies like Spring Boot, Docker, Consul, Jenkins, RDBMS, and more. Some of the libraries this team works on cover cross-cutting domains such as communication, error-handling, cross-region routing, observability (M.E.L.T), and database connections.
Responsibilities
- Manage, coach, and strengthen a team of dedicated software engineers
- Develop the technical vision and direction of Java usage and supporting technologies across the organization
- Guide the team towards doing the right projects, based on scope, complexity, and effort, as compared to the estimated value
- Provide guidance to achieve high-quality and secure code and architecture
- Collaborate with partner teams to develop reliable and high-quality shared libraries and infrastructure pipeline
- Help ensure the team development process runs efficiently and iterate and change as needed
- Contribute to the excellence of the larger organization, with input on operations, technologies, and architecture, across the broader team!
Requirements
- A minimum of 8 years of professional software engineering experience, including experience with Java and the Spring Framework
- A desire to manage and support high-performance teams and people.
- Strong architectural knowledge of distributed, fault-tolerant, and scalable systems and services
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong understanding of CI/CD systems, including virtualization/containerization technologies
- Experience working with public cloud concepts and technologies
- Ability to build effective vertical and horizontal relationships, to foster outstanding collaboration and partnership
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or equivalent experience
