Technical Game Designer

Sony Bend Studio, the creator of Days Gone, Syphon Filter and Uncharted: Golden Abyss , is looking for top talent to join our in passionate team.
We are seeking a Technical Game Designer who will contribute to the design and development of AAA products. They will be assisting the design team with implementing content and helping playtest, tune and debug the game utilizing a combination of creative and technical design skills.
The Technical Game Designer must possess the ability to collaborate with a wide-range of development team members outside of direct discipline such as Directors, Artists, Animators, and Programmers to define and implement the desired tools, processes and game play efficiently and at a high level of quality in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Help establish, maintain, and guide game systems; identifying requirements through to hands-on problem solving
- Produce gameplay content in the production phase of one or more products to final completion
- Maintain the game design vision during all phases of the product development cycle from concept through implementation using a combination of written documents, visual designs, and verbal communication
- Playtest the game to give feedback to other designers, identify bugs, and help tune the entire game experience
- Manage and maintain game content by tuning and fixing bugs
- Help maintain gameplay-oriented tools, pipeline, content, and workflow solutions
- Work closely with design and engineering teams on tools, pipeline and workflow
- Discover and share information and best practices across the team
- Attend design-specific discussions concerning design reviews and design issues
- Collaborate with Leads and other designers during the product development cycle on technical, creative, and production related topics
- Contribute, as needed, in all educational meetings for in-house staff on new technical issues and tools
- Communicate thoroughly to ensure good working relationships with the other Designers, and members of all departments
- Maintain the game design vision during all phases of the product development cycle from concept through implementation using a combination of written documents, visual designs, and verbal communication
Requirements/Education:
- Experienced with game-related scripting languages
- Experienced with variety of game engines (Unreal, Unity, proprietary, etc.)
- Possess working knowledge of Maya, 3ds Max, Blender (or similar 3D package), engine tools and processes
- Must have at least one area of game design expertise such as Mission Design, Level Design, Systems Design, Technical Design, etc.
- Must have knowledge of competitive products and various genres, as well as a personal understanding of what makes games fun and entertaining
- Understanding of story and character design, level design, AI design, player control, user interface, pacing, etc.
- Good error checking and debug skills to help identify problems and bugs and ensure the assigned tasks are always working. Ability to troubleshoot relentlessly, chasing down issues on behalf of the team
- Strong reading, writing, and comprehension skills to have complete understanding of complex process documents, design documents, and written assignments
- Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with individual team members, or within a group setting and the ability to write short reports and process documents when needed to explain implementation processes, design ideas, or other issues
- Strong time management skills with the ability to break down assignments and prioritize them into workable tasks on a daily, weekly, and project length basis
- Strong data management skills, with the ability to manage and track large amounts of data as they go through the design pipeline, with attention to naming conventions, directory structures, and other defined processes
- 2-4 years of experience in a game production environment
- One or two years of post-high school education or training
