Job Description:

World of Warcraft (WoW) is looking to add a new member to our technical design team. A technical designer on WoW straddles the line between design and engineering to provide both technical and creative support to the game’s content and workflows. They are passionate about building systems and tools that make creating maintainable, WoW-quality content easier, and they understand the underlying systems upon which the game is built.

A technical designer works under the guidance of senior members of the design and engineering teams to plan and execute projects including content creation, building and maintaining designer tools, content reviews, and large-scale data changes. They are committed to learning, have a collaborative attitude, and are always asking “how can we make making WoW better?”

COVID-19 Hiring Update: We’ve transitioned to a work-from-home model and we’re continuing to interview and hire during this time. This role is expected to begin as a remote position. We understand each person’s circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore possible interim options.

Responsibilities

• Maintain collaborative connections with design, engineering, QA, production, and art
• Build and maintain a suite of developer tools
• Drive large-scale data conversion projects
• Serve as a technical point of contact for content reviews and best practices
• Champion performance and maintainability of content
• Diagnose and debug content issues in both the development and live environment
• Work with engineering to request and refine workflow and tool changes
• Create content and help design systems

Requirements

• Deep understanding of World of Warcraft
• Scripting or other programming experience
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Absolute passion for playing and making games
• 3+ years as a technical designer with at least 1 shipped AAA title

Plusses

• Lua, C#, or C++ programming experience
• Experience authoring WoW addons
• Experience working with SQL or relational databases
• Experience optimizing code
• Experience with content creation tools and game editors
• Degree in computer science or related field
