Offworld Industries Ltd. (OWI) is the independent studio behind the successful military first person shooter game, “Squad”. OWI was formed in 2014 by more than 15 developers who had worked together on the well known Project Reality mod for Battlefield 2. The founding purpose of the team was to bring a standalone successor of this acclaimed mod to market and build a game development studio and a livelihood from that foundation.

Fast forward to 2021, OWI has nearly 90 employees and is rapidly growing. We have been expanding the studio into both serving as a publisher supporting mods, as well as a technology provider building a framework for character based multiplayer games based in UE4.

We strive to become a leader in creating large-scale multiplayer games as well as supplying others with the ability to do the same. We are looking for a talented Technical Artist for our current and upcoming Unreal Engine based multiplayer games. About the Role:

You will have the opportunity to be part of a group that drives our tech art pipeline working with UE4. You will act as part of the bridge of communication between Worlds and Engineering to help ensure our pipelines run smoothly and assist with troubleshooting technical problems.

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for optimizations process, performance budgets, and searching for solutions to allow artists to work more efficiently.
  • Create tools for Artists and Designers using UE4 using blueprints
  • Analyze game performance and memory across all of our release platforms using various engine, 3rd party tools, and internal tools.
  • Solve technical challenges blocking Artists and Designers.
  • Improve and help establish pipelines & best practices for content teams.
  • Troubleshoot existing tech and support incoming tech.
  • Identify blockers and produce quality work within the technical constraints of the project.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of game production experience
  • Enjoys creation of documentation and educating others on technical restrictions or guidelines
  • Experience in shader networks found in UE4
  • Understands memory and framerate budgets in UE4
  • Knowledge of Python
  • Able to give reasonable timeframes for technical tasks
  • Creation of tools through UE4 Blueprinting
  • Strong understanding of modern DCC tools such as Maya
  • Has a passion for problem solving and is a solutions-provider, particularly as it pertains to debugging technical issues
  • Self-motivated, self-sufficient, well organized, and able to multitask
  • Proactive about making things happen in teams, always seeking a better solution, and a drive to continue expanding knowledge as a technical artist
  • Knowledge of art creation pipelines, asset exporting and process automation software
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate with multiple teams
  • A passion for games and game visuals

Desirable traits:

  • Knowledge of Houdini
  • Knowledge of C++ Language
  • Knowledge in HLSL

This is a full-time permanent position, where the successful candidate will be working from home for now, with a long term view to relocate to Vancouver Canada.
