Lighting Technical Artist, Spotlight

As a Lighting Artist on the Spotlight Team you will work closely with key Game Developers and partners, to guide innovation and visualisation with Unity. The team collaborate with our partners to make outstanding visuals possible, with the development of templates, advice and the creation of sample assets.
As part of the Spotlight team you’ll be able to create high-end visuals using your rendering, lighting, and maybe, animation, materials or modelling skills, to help our partners achieve this too. You’ll give aesthetic advice as well as technical advice on how to use our tools. You’ll be creating shaders, materials, and lighting setups to make the visuals shine. You’ll work with our partners to understand their aims, offering guidance and support on how best to achieve their vision.
You’ll be called on to work with internal teams to give feedback on tools, test other products, trial workflows, work with our UX teams, test UI of new features and drive the engine forwards.
This is an opportunity to gain far reaching influence in new and existing areas of games dev and industry. You’ll be deeply involved in AAA development whilst maintaining a work/life balance. You’ll develop your skills and have the opportunity to learn through creating sample content to inform our users. You’ll nurture relationships with industry leading teams, meet new people and travel to partners on occasion.
This role may require travel, on average 4 days per month.
Responsibilities
- Work with well known game developers to create high-end and cutting edge showcases for Unity
- Understand Unity’s tools and workflows and provide advice as needed
- Know how to create graphical quality to the highest level, and never be satisfied with anything less
- Advise on how to improve current features, or suggest new ones
- Create sample assets for our partners or Unity customers in general
- Work closely with the Spotlight engineers and the wider company to create new features or improve current ones
Requirements
- Game development experience
- Great communication skills and the ability to collaborate with engineers, designers, artists, testers, and other developers
- Experience in lighting and post effects
- Experience with Unity, Unreal or another game engine
Bonus points
- Understanding of C# or scripting languages
- Ability to create shaders and materials
- Experience managing external partners and outsourcers
- Traditional drawing skills
