TECHNICAL ART DIRECTOR
As a Technical Art Director you are the bridge between artists, engineers and designers. Your primary responsibilities will be to build and manage the tech art discipline, as well as extend our tools to improve content creation workflows. You will also work closely together with the art and engineering teams to help define and carry out the artistic vision and technical execution of the game in an effective, efficient and intuitive manner.
Responsibilities:
- Expected to assume ownership for all technical issues and bring them to resolution. This includes delegation, and empowerment of, Lead, Senior, Mid, and Associate Technical Art team members.
- Define technical roadmaps and long term vision for the tech art team
- Improve existing content creation tools and pipelines based on both current and long term needs and requirements
- Review pipelines and content creation process to identify best practices.
- Collaborates with engineering to develop cutting edge tools and technologies,
- Spearhead R&D efforts
- Gain a deep understanding of our proprietary engine and tools
- Collaborate with technical and aesthetic experts to define clear goals for the toolset, pipeline and workflows.
- Research future solutions and cutting edge content technologies.
Required Skills:
- At least 6 years of experience as a technical artist on a shipped AAA title
- Experience leading and mentoring teams of 5+ team members.
- Expert understanding of content creation tools and workflows: modeling, texturing, shading, rigging, animation, and lighting
- Deep understanding of game asset optimization methods, as well as pipelines and processes.
- Experience with 2D and 3D art packages: Maya, Substance Painter/Designer and Houdini
- Proficient in Python and Mel skills
- Positive attitude and a desire to bring new ideas to the team.
- Passion for making and playing great games, with an awareness of industry trends.
- Strong understanding of methods of optimizing game art assets for game engines and optimizing pipelines and processes.
Bonus Skills:
- Build advanced rigs for characters, creatures and other assets using Maya
- Experience rigging for a AAA game
- Experience creating procedural level content
- Have experience creating complex shaders
- Have worked on mobile games and understands the limitations and constraints
- Experience working on proprietary engines for games
- Experience creating high-quality animations for games
