The Technical Art Director is both a managing and contributing position in the Technical Art team. Working collaboratively with the Art Director and Technical Director, they will take ownership and oversee strategic multidisciplinary initiatives to deliver measurable game improvements. You are passionate about meeting in-game and production needs through the development of art production workflows, tools, pipelines, game analysis/optimization, gameplay scripting, and shader development.. We are picturing someone with demonstrable leadership and problem-solving sensibilities, who can embrace our game development philosophy and share their hard earned expertise to create an incredible experience for our players.
Responsibilities:
As a Technical Art Director you will:
- Oversee the Tech Art and VFX teams and ensure the quality of the department's work is at a high level.
- Work closely with the Game Director, Art Director, and other Leads within Art and Engineering to make sure tools and support features meet the vision for production needs and execution.
- Establish best practices, quality bar, pipelines, and processes for the department.
- Preserve and improve our current set of Art tools.
- Troubleshoot and prioritize artist issues with tools and art creation workflow.
- Work with engineers to get features running and test before main production.
- Work with engineers, artists, and designers to pinpoint game performance and memory usage issues.
- Partner up with QV/QE to deploy performance monitoring and validations solutions to support our content creation efforts.
- Organize and pioneer ongoing department research into new software to facilitate more efficient content production.
- Be an advocate for the department's goals, and desires. Remove roadblocks, raise red flags, etc.
- Work with leads in other departments to ensure solid working relationships between departments.
- Develop, motivate, and mentor team members. Create opportunities for challenge and growth.
- Inspire the entire department to constantly raise the quality bar, develop solutions, and work with all other connected departments.
- Contribute to the creation of strategy and schedule and ensure your team delivers work on time.
- Play a critical role in the recruiting efforts of the department, including screening, interviewing, final selection, and offer decisions.
- Work as a liaison with EA and other EA Mobile studios to help advance our shared development methodologies.
- Partner with the Art Outsourcing team to ensure there is an end-to-end content strategy that can scale to match our live-services aspirations.

Qualifications:
- ≥ 2 shipped titles using Unreal Engine
- At least 6+ years of AAA production experience. At least 6 years of games production experience. You have shipped multiple games on mobile, and has experience with first-person shooters.
- Demonstrable ability to lead by example, in both quality of work and professional conduct.
- Portfolio that demonstrates relevant tech art experience in games (tools, pipelines, etc.)
- In depth expertise on relevant 3D and 2D software packages (such as Maya, Houdini, Substance, Photoshop, and Zbrush).
- Demonstrable strong understanding of relevant tools and technology.
- Strong understanding of game engines and art integration as well as corresponding technical restraints. Experience with Unreal Engine is required.
- Ability to talk about R&D, how you evaluate and test new software for use in development.
- Strong understanding of pipelines and how to improve them.
