Tech Lead - Cloud Engineering

Job Description:

The Activision Infrastructure team is looking for an experienced Technical Lead for our Cloud Engineering team, to join us either 100% remotely, or in our offices in Vancouver, Canada or in Sherman Oaks, California. This team supports a variety of cloud workloads and you will be instrumental in setting standards and supporting key technologies. You will help drive efficiencies and both cost and performance within Amazon Web Services and the Google Cloud Platform.

We work on building solid Cloud Foundations, as well as large, distributed systems such as Kubernetes, Kafka, and Cassandra, and keep them running in the Cloud. We help internal teams build large projects on Google Cloud using Terraform, and provide smooth CI/CD development workflows.

Responsibilities

● Mentor other team members on feature implementation, ensuring requirements are met in a timely appropriate manner

● Steer the team's tech roadmap

● Help build a solid Cloud Foundations platform for our internal development teams

● Participate in cross-team technical discussions

● Contribute to and review designs and code from other teams throughout the company

● Support our customers as they roll-out new features to game-studio partners, and provide support and consultancy to our colleagues around the world

● Provide mentorship on best practices for DevOps & Cloud Engineering

● Develop and manage consistent and coherent SRE processes and practices to support software development, testing, builds and deployment

● Guide infrastructure & tools architecture design to enable high uptime, minimize failures, ensure applications & data security, and expedite diagnostics

● Design and update team IaC and software standards

● Participate in an on-call support rotation

● Consider security, sustainability, and supportability concerns with the team’s work

Role Requirements

● Excellent communication skills allowing effective interactions with internal/external teams

● Proven experience Designing and Engineering large-scale distributed systems ● Experience with Container Orchestration systems such as Kubernetes or OpenShift

● Experience creating automation to cover installation and configuration, functional testing, security testing, and performance testing

● Experience with CI platforms like Jenkins, ArgoCD, GitHub Actions

● Solid knowledge of public cloud architecture concepts and practice (GCP, AWS, Azure)

● Knowledge of HashiCorp products like Vault, Consul, Terraform or similar products

● Clear understanding of Networking concepts (e.g., Firewalls, VPC, VPN, DNS, etc.)

● Ability to define and document processes and procedures, and build consensus with teams and stakeholders

Nice To Have

● Architecture experience

● Knowledge of Container Network Interfaces (e.g., Callico, Cilium, etc)

● Web servers/reverse proxies such as nginx, apache httpd, and haproxy

● Logging tools such as ELK, Loki, GCP Cloud Logging, etc.

● Alerting tools such as PagerDuty

● Work/defect tracking & Wiki systems such as Jira/Confluence

● Ability to prioritize & balance activity between projects for longer-term impact and immediate production critical requirements with a customer focus
