Engineering at Timbre Games
An Engineer at Timbre games will focus on creative, innovative and technically sound work. Our engineering team is fully integrated with all areas of game development and collaborates both technically and creatively. Our studio focuses on Unreal Engine 5, pushing everything we do towards technical excellence. We are lifelong learners, leaning on both internal expertise and external inspiration to continue our path of growth and development. We have a keen eye for best practices and elegant code, and ensure knowledge sharing, and mentoring are a priority.
The leader of this team will enable our group to pursue our vision of diverse and accessible AAA games, realized and explored by cross-discipline collaboration and open communication.
Studio Technical Director at Timbre Games
You are a key member of the executive leadership team and can create and lead a strategic technical vision for the studio, preparing us for the games we make today, and setting us up for the games we will make tomorrow. You will contribute to the ongoing vision of our studio and be involved in critical decisions as we continue to grow our studio and products.
You will navigate complex technical challenges, partnering with the core development teams and external partners to achieve long-lasting solutions.
You have a deep understanding and experience using Unreal Engine or similar as a core platform – and can mentor, guide and expand our team members knowledge on this platform. Your experience in programming and management will be key, as you grow and inspire the engineering team to build their best work.
You provide a good balance of teaching versus doing and are equally comfortable in an engineering environment as you are in an executive one.
You are seen as a trusted leader, who listens actively, and who encourages the team through a coaching mindset to contribute freely and collaboratively to solutions and strategies.
As Studio Technical Director at Timbre, you will:
- Create our Studio Technical Strategy and Roadmap across multiple projects, leading core engineering infrastructure and project code strategy to deliver great products, tools, and systems
- Develop and grow an engineering team that can deliver high quality, is inclusive and diverse, and focuses on cross discipline collaboration in their delivery
- Contribute at the studio executive level to help create the foundation of Timbre across areas such as IT and technology infrastructure, Performance Coaching and Career Management, Budgeting, Physical Studio search and Build out as well as our hybrid and remote work plan.
- Foster an agile mindset and an environment of constant learning so that Timbre is at the forefront of innovation in video game technology
- Elevate Timbre’s technical presence and involvement in key external events that focus on technology and gaming
- Embrace our agile development processes and be a product steward for key engineering initiatives at the studio
- Maintain current coding practices through extensive experience in Rendering, AI, Gameplay, Game Systems or Tools (even though coding is not an expected day-to-day task)
What you bring:
- Driving technical innovation and best practices in a technical leadership role, preferably in a scaling game studio or start up environment across multiple projects.
- Unreal Engine (or similar engine experience) and the ability to lead all engineering efforts in this engine
- Assessing gaps in technology foundation and articulating, advocating and implementing programs to improve architecture, systems and processes.
- Elevating engineering leadership through coaching and mentorship while creating a team culture where all team members have an inclusive environment in which to grow as humans and engineers.
- A passion and curiosity for creating and delivering reusable and high performant technology solutions for creative teams
- Experience managing engineering projects, timelines and staffing plans.
- Partnering across internal and external stakeholders including the Executive team, studio and publishers to develop and execute technical plans
