Studio Art Lead

Rebellion North are looking for a talented Studio Art Lead to work on Rebellion games as well as trusted industry partners on genre-defining AAA IPs. The Opportunity

The Studio Art Lead is a brand-new, pivotal role dedicated to balancing creative vision with production of high-quality assets. As the Studio Art Lead you will have overall responsibility for the artwork and artists at the studio. You will involve yourself in all areas of game art, from concept, environments, characters, and UI, including making hands-on contributions to the artwork. You’ll also have ownership of the planning and structuring of tasks and pipelines with efficiency.

Our preference is for candidates to work together at our Wakefield site or in a hybrid-working arrangement with regular travel to Wakefield, but remote candidates may also be considered.

Responsibilities

• Overall responsibility for all artwork and artists at Rebellion North
• Collaborate with Head of Studio, Head of Art, Designers, Programmers, and Producers to balance creative vision with production realities
• Hands-on contribution to the game artwork
• Plan and structure tasks and pipelines with efficiency
• Produce high-quality assets in their entirety, respecting the concept art as closely as possible
• Become familiar with game design documentation and assets lists to understand your responsibility to create credible assets for the story
• Verify the quality of objects in the game, and make improvements where necessary to fit technical constraints and artistic direction
• Inspire and motivate the art team to achieve their best, driving artistic quality by example and successful teamwork, giving feedback and direction where needed
• Work closely with other development teams to overcome issues and produce the best game titles

Requirements

• Extensive knowledge of 3D software such as 3D Studio Max, Maya, and Blender
• Expert knowledge of 3D sculpting packages such as Zbrush or Mudbox
• High knowledge of Photoshop or Substance Painter
• Experience with working and implementing artwork to a game engine such as Unreal or Unity
• Comprehensive knowledge of PRB material pipeline/substance
• Easily able to translate concept and reference artwork into high-quality character models
