As a Staff Photomask Engineer within our FEOL Process R&D Team, you will be a key contributor and the primary point of contact for 3D photomask fabrication, leveraging input from internal stakeholders and external partners and vendors. You will ensure photomask qualification is completed in a timely manner and with high quality so R&D and manufacturing goals can be met. You will also lead efforts to define project priorities and identify new capabilities in the photomask space that can be leveraged as part of Magic Leap’s 3D lithographic processing.
What you’ll do
- Complete incoming photomask inspections and coordinate final fab qualification activities with process integration team members
- Lead external vendor communications to identify new fabrication capabilities and sustain ongoing projects (includes document preparation, GDS file audits, and design reviews)
- Coordinate with Magic Leap’s internal optical design team to provide technical insight and help define evolving requirements for mask fabrication needs
- Generate final photomask qualification reports to be shared with the process integration and manufacturing teams
- Coordinate with R&D process and metrology team members to verify photomask dimensional specifications and provide actionable feedback to partners/vendors
- Hold regular meetings with internal and external stakeholders to track project status and provide insight related to Magic Leap’s updated priorities and scheduling
- Streamline internal and external photomask communications by generating standardized documentation using input from design team members and vendor representatives
- Maintain a working catalog of Magic Leap’s extensive photomask collection
The experience you bring
- 7+ years of professional experience in direct photomask-related activities (design/audit/fabrication/inspection)
- B.S. or Master’s degree in a technical discipline (physics, chemistry, EE, ME) or equivalent relevant experience in an applicable field. We are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements.
- Independent ability to communicate and audit GDS files used for mask fabrication
- Understanding of the current state-of-the-art in 3D mask patterning
- Extensive knowledge of photomask processing and fabrication concepts
- Working understanding of standard nanofabrication processes used in semiconductor, MEMS, or optical component fabrication
It’s exciting if you also have
- Cleanroom and hands-on nanofabrication experience in an R&D environment
- Experience with 3D nanopatterning and precision inkjet dispense
- Working knowledge of Nanoimprint Lithography (NIL) and associated challenges
- Understanding of metrology trends used to characterize photomask dimensions and morphology
- Existing relationships within the photomask vendor community
- Experience handling and characterizing transparent substrates
