Sr. Server Engineer - Games Studio

The Senior Server Engineer will be involved in organizing and collaborating with members of the Boss Fight team from every part of the studio to deliver exceptionally high-quality game backends in the cloud.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

• Architect, build, test, secure, and scale highly available AWS systems
• Work collaboratively with engineers and designers to identify needs, evaluate requirements, write specifications, and design, and implement sophisticated cloud-based solutions
• Contribute to game production by providing estimates on the scalability and cost of desired features
• Identify and resolve complex issues in a live game environment
• Mentor, and guide other Server Engineers to drive projects to on time and on budget completion
• Proactively identify, and communicate areas of concern or problems, remove roadblocks, and solve problems for the team
• Partner with Director and other engineers to understand, mitigate and reduce technical debt
• Research and explore new technologies to speed up response time and reduce server costs and make recommendations for improvement
• Partner with Director to drive established best practices
• Participate in on-call support and ensure 24/7 availability of game services

• In depth knowledge of Unix operating systems

Nice To Haves

• Experience with Docker, Node.js, and related technologies
• Experience in managing live service games
• Experience authoring, publishing, and maintaining web APIs with AWS
• Experience with Terraform or other infrastructure deployment tools
• Experience with Git, Perforce, or other source control systems

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Expertise in globally distributed AWS infrastructure, security, solution design and best practices

Our core hours are 10am to 6pm Central Time, which means you should be available for meetings etc. during this time period. You will be required to work longer hours on occasion, especially during periods when staff is working late to meet tight deadlines etc.
