Job Title: Sr. Palo Alto Network Engineer
Job Summary: The Sr. Palo Alto Network Engineer is responsible for installing, supporting and maintaining Palo Alto Networks suite of products. They are also responsible for network design, network performance, solving technical issues, updating job knowledge, installing and upgrading network equipment, ensuring network security, managing firewall changes, and providing service desk support for escalations. This position will work within Information Technology (IT), collaborate with Information Security, Facilities and vendors to plan, design, implement and oversee all network services including virtual private networking (VPN), firewall, Internet circuits, and routing across all TPCi sites. As a member of the IT Infrastructure team, you will focus on the availability, reliability, capacity and quality of these services using tools such as ThousandEyes, ExtraHop, Solarwinds and Sumo Logic.

What you’ll do
- Configure firewalls via Panorama management software
- Design and implement network infrastructure supporting TPCi data, voice and video systems
- Manage, maintain and monitor network infrastructure such as firewalls, routers, switches, wireless access points, Internet circuits, server rooms and network closets
- Ensure network security by upgrading firmware and software on firewalls and network devices, as well as by making configuration changes per security best practices and Information Security guidance
- Troubleshoot routing and switching in a multi-site environment, as well as network connectivity with cloud environments such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Azure, and remote Disaster Recovery environments
- Troubleshoot IT infrastructure technologies, including network issues with firewall, wireless, storage, server, virtual and cloud environments
- Document the design, operation, and troubleshooting of network platforms and procedures
- Provide specific, detailed recommendations for Palo Alto and network related hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements
- Conduct testing of firewall and network systems
- Create network infrastructure performance reports and dashboards in tools like Panorama, Solarwinds, ThousandEyes, ExtraHop and Sumo Logic
- Monitor IT Infrastructure service performance including network availability, reliability, quality, and capacity
- Maintain technical expertise in Palo Alto Network technologies
- Evaluate and report on new network technologies and industry trends to enhance capabilities of the network to support business needs
- Coordinate with other departments and vendors to support construction and growth initiatives
- Supervise vendors and contractors performing infrastructure implementations
- Mentor IT staff on firewall and network technologies
- Support local and remote users via IT Support ticketing systems, emails, Slack, phone calls, and as part of a Tier 2 after hours on-call rotation
What you’ll bring
- 8+ years of hands-on Palo Alto Networks firewall configuration experience
- 5+ years of hands-on Panorama configuration experience supporting firewalls across multiple sites utilizing Device Group hierarchies and Template Stacks
- 5+ years of Tier 2 or higher firewall/network support experience
- 2+ years of Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) configuration and troubleshooting experience
- Expert level experience configuring firewall security policies, network address translation (NAT), remote user virtual private network (VPN), and site-to-site VPN tunnels
- Expert understanding of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) fundamentals, subnetting, Domain Name System (DNS), and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)
- Significant routing troubleshooting experience
- Significant packet capture analysis experience and familiarity with tools such as Wireshark or tcpdump
- Network performance analysis and monitoring experience
- Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE) certification required within six months
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher required, CCNP preferred
