Job Description
The Senior Manager, Art leads and manages the Art Team within the Ubisoft Creative Services Department. Ubisoft Creative Services produces marketing visuals that are used in the marketing campaigns for most Ubisoft games. The Art Team produces high quality, technically intricate 2D and 3D images that are a critical part of these campaigns. This position reports into the Creative Director (in San Francisco) and will manage 2 Artists (in Montreal).
The Sr. Mgr., Art guides and supports the Art Team by providing quality control and providing high level art execution. He/She will work to inspire the team’s skill improvement and passion for their work as well as guiding projects to have the highest levels of quality with the limitations of time and technology.
The Art Team also supports the Brand Team in 3D and Marketing Art Creation with external partners. They aim to ensure the success of vendors, designers, Video Services, creative ideation teams, by providing assets, support, quality control, and consulting pertaining to marketing art.
The Sr. Mgr., Art oversees the production pipeline where all projects are shared between various artists to efficiently balance workload, skillsets, and skill progression. The Sr. Mgr., Art will also help procure and manage freelance talent to keep up with high volumes of work, keeping projects under budget and on time.
The Sr. Mgr., Art is responsible for executing a wide array of marketing art, animation, and design assets. Aside from a large selection of output types, he/she will be expected to produce a wide variety of execution styles, from classical paint, to photo-real 3D at an extremely high level.
This position will consistently seek to add greater efficiencies and services to compete in emerging marketing art fields of distribution to ensure the success and visual quality of Ubisoft brands.
Candidates will be expected to travel to the Creative Services headquarters in San Francisco 3-4 times per year.
What you'll do
- Supporting and executing high quality art for Ubisoft marketing campaigns
- Consulting stakeholders on technical issues pertaining to art and 3D
- Managing and supporting 2 Artists
- Creating and managing a render technology pipeline
- Creating and managing computer hardware builds
- Managing software pipeline
- Creating and managing project management and scheduling standards
- Setting art budgets and timelines
- Partnering with world-wide teams to better support the Marketing Team
- Working with dev teams to create high-quality models based on in-game assets
- Managing and working with a producer to task freelancers
- Training team members
- Properly lookdev and setup realistic and stylized lighting environments
- 3D Modeling (Stylized and Realistic)
- 3D texturing and building high quality shader networks (Stylized and Realistic)
- The ability to work within extremely large pixel dimensions, accounting for the highest level of detail
- Work within a local and cloud-based render pipeline for large format output
- Assembling and outputting for 3D printing
- 2D paint over
- 2D Illustration
- Photobashing
- Photo Retouching
- Photo Comping
- Housing and organizing of 3D assets for use within the pipeline and for vendor distribution
- Assisting Vendors with 3D needs
- Building knowledge and adhering to legal and licensing restrictions within marketing art
Qualifications
What you bring
- Strong management skills
- Knowledge of project management tools (JIRA, Basecamp preferred)
- A portfolio/website with samples of their work
- Deep knowledge of the entire Adobe Suite
- The ability to work with constructive criticism
- Strong interpersonal skills, organizational, and strategic and research skills
- Solid understanding of marketing, media, and technology
- Advanced 3D sculpting skills
- Advanced knowledge of human and animal anatomy
- Max and Maya Scripting knowledge is a plus
- Must have strong skills in 3DS Max/V-ray/Maya
- Strong shader network skills
- The ability to create and maintain a network render farm
- Strong digital paint skills
- Substance Painter is a plus
- Advanced knowledge of 3D animation
- Knowledge of 3D physics simulation
- Skilled in 3D hair and grooming
- Strong skills required in use of computers
- Must possess strong initiative, attention to detail
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to resolve issues in imaginative, creative, and practical ways
- Gaming experience on current systems preferred
- Gaming industry experience is a plus
- The ability to collaborate with Designers, Art Directors, Illustrators, Copywriters, Project Managers and Brand Managers
- A mature, professional attitude, combined with a desire to have fun
