Title: Senior Licensing Manager

Report to: Licensing Director

Summary:

Sr. Licensing Manager will lead all CAPCOM IP merchandising plan creation, product development, communicate and obtain approvals from CAPCOM Japan R&D, Organize a creative kickoff meeting with new partners, and manage overall approval process of the outbound licensing function, reporting to the Director of Licensing.

The Sr. Licensing Manager will manage the critical creative effort of collaborating with all appropriate Capcom departments --- Marketing, PR, as well as R&D/Producers- managing the concept and product development schedule of licensed merchandise for all Capcom titles launching within the specified planning window; having creative plans approved by the respective R&D/Producer; and managing product development schedule to execute the plans. Simultaneously, request from R&D the assets necessary for the product development, and ensure timely approvals by R&D/Producer to meet the established manufacturing and sales deadlines for licensees.

When requested, the Sr. Licensing Manager will maintain good relations with assigned US based Licensees with whom he/she would proactively search for and negotiate new business opportunities/projects. With the product development and IP knowledge, proactively evaluate new licensing opportunities, present those opportunities to Director to support the department’s objective to search for new streams of revenue in untapped or underdeveloped categories.

This position is also required to obtain business approvals from R&D/Producers and Capcom Japan Licensing team, prior to contract signing.

Functional responsibilities:

  1. Maintain close relationships with the leading licensees in all major product categories, including but not limited to apparel, toys, electronics, publication and digital licensing.
  2. Manage licensing workflow including product approvals of CAPCOM merchandise using approval tracking system.
  3. Communicate regularly with partners to build and maintain strong professional relationships. Solve product questions/issues and coordinate resolutions
  4. Serve as the primary liaison for the asset requests and approvals with R&D at CAPCOM JAPAN.
  5. Obtain business, concept, and design approvals from CAPCOM R&D/Producers and CJ Licensing team.
  6. Serve as Capcom IP subject matter expert to assist licensees’ product development, always placing brand integrity first
  7. Organize and lead Merchandise Planning kick off meetings with new partners. Makes suggestions and recommendations for licensing Capcom IPs based on licensees product line/business model.
  8. Stay current with appropriate merchandise offerings/trends across all retail channels, for specific age and gender demographics, and across territories and countries so as to ensure the most thorough Merchandising Plan creation for each Capcom property.
  9. Assist the Director in developing a comprehensive licensing strategy for each Capcom IP in line with the overall brand goals and objectives
  10. Work with the legal department, oversee details of the contracts with licensees, and communicate with IP legal to assess possible risks
  11. Work with marketing/PR/community team to support licensees, and to maximize the sales opportunity of the licensed products
  12. Assist the Director to prepare presentation materials and reports for meetings with licensees and internal stakeholders
  13. Work with marketing, R&D and outside vendors to create brand style guides

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
  2. Business level Japanese Required
  3. Strong organization & problem solving skills
  4. 8-10 years of relevant experience preferably in the licensing industry
  5. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
  6. Basic command of graphic software (Photoshop, Illustrator)
  7. Knowledge of video game industry a plus
  8. Knowledge of pop culture, collectibles market, and anime/manga a plus
