VELA GAMES IS LOOKING FOR A TALENTED DESIGNER TO HELP BUILD OUR NEW MULTIPLAYER ONLINE CO-OPERATIVE (MOCO) GAME.
We’re looking for someone who wants to be part of the foundation of Vela Games; someone who is passionate about being part of an early tight-knit team laser-focused on taking our new genre of game to the next level. This person is a design expert, who will not only design and implement great encounters, objectives, and content, but who will also contribute to overall game direction. This person loves playing games as much as making games and understands the nuances of what good gameplay looks and feels like from a player perspective.

Covid-19 Hiring Update: We’ve transitioned to a work-from-home model but we’re continuing to interview and hire during this time. This role is expected to begin as a remote position but transition to full time in Dublin, Ireland at a later time. We understand each person’s circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore possible interim options.
What you will do
- Understand and develop a long term content strategy to keep the game exciting and fresh for players
- Concept, design, and implement procedurally generated events and encounters using our proprietary system inside Unreal Engine 4
- Drive the design for enemy units by making them make them fun, diverse and engaging
- Partner with creative, VFX, animation, and production to help co-create high quality, unique gameplay for our new genre
Requirements
- Have at least 4 years of action-oriented combat design experience in the video game industry
- Extensive content and encounter design expertise. Ideally someone who has creatively owned complete implementations from concept to delivery.
- Excellent communication skills and able to effectively collaborate with other team members
- Self-motivated / have a growth mindset and can solve problems independently when needed
- Start-up orientation: Strong focus in content design, but also able to contribute to work outside specialization
- Possess a deep passion for multiplayer games and player experience
Bonus Points
- Experience working with Unreal Engine 4
- Previous experience working on an Online / Multiplayer game
- Experience building gameplay content using procedural techniques
- Experience designing boss encounters in any game
- Non-design development experience (artist, programmer, etc.
