CCP London is currently growing our team! We have an exciting opportunity for a talented Sr. Combat Designer to work with us on an unannounced online multiplayer shooter. We are looking for an individual with strong combat design skills to join a highly motivated team of programmers, artists, designers, and QA working to build a varied and unique user experience for the game.
We are a small team in the early stages of development, so this is a unique opportunity to have a large impact. Reporting to the Creative Director, you will be responsible for all aspects of the game’s combat. This is a highly visible position inside of the company, and you will be a key member of the creative team for the project.
As the combat designer, you will come up with new features for the game’s combat systems, including weapons, player abilities, and new features. Working with the analytics team, you will help tune the combat to create fun, exciting, and balanced gameplay.
Your tasks:
- Design, implement, tune, and maintain combat systems, abilities, items, weapons, and player statistics.
- Ownership of the core combat mechanic and specification of associated animation.
- Ownership of the development of combat features and improvement efforts, from ideation through delivery to players.
- Maintain clear and concise documentation for all mechanics, balance, and systems they are responsible for.
- Mentor and work with other designers on the Combat team to improve their design, technical, and communication skills.
- Validation of all combat design scoping estimates.
Your profile:
- Minimum 3+ years combat design experience on a shipped or live online multiplayer shooter with both PVP and PVE experience.
- Understanding and experience in balancing complex interactions between player abilities, stats, itemisation, and weapons using testing methodologies both within and outside of the game.
- Great written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to thrive within a collaborative environment, and both give and receive constructive feedback.
- Ability to think logically and break down complex problems, with a strong focus on attention to detail.
- Experience working in an Agile development environment.
Desirable Skills- Third-person shooter combat design experience.
- Experience with scripting tools or languages.
- Experience with UE4 Blueprints.
- Experience building multiple types of combat and non-combat mechanics, weaponry and gadgets.
