At Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), data is a critical business asset that facilitates business operations, empowers decision making, and provides vital insights into improvement and innovation of PlayStation products and services. With exponential data growth brought on by PlayStation’s success, the Data Governance and Literacy team is tasked with the mission to instill a culture of responsible and effective use of data. This is accomplished by governing data as a valuable enterprise asset (responsible) and continuously elevating the organization’s data literacy (effective). Based at our San Mateo, CA headquarter, this role focuses on developing and executing data governance processes to advance the understanding of and compliance with data privacy policies in SIE as well as the broader Sony. The candidate will be expected to acquire a holistic view of data operations in a company that has a massive scale, and in the process rewarded with a broad understanding of the business as well as the opportunity to work with a wide range of high-caliber teams across the globe.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate global privacy reviews, a key data governance process designed to instill proactive thinking of privacy implications in everything that we do. As a facilitator, you will research, learn, and analyze both current and future data operations in all parts of the company. You will study, improve, and pick apart data flow diagrams to ensure thorough understanding by all parties on how data flows.
- Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders of the privacy review process (e.g. privacy attorneys, product managers, engineers, business contacts), ensuring necessary information is provided and reviews are conducted on a timely basis.
- Maintain documentation of privacy reviews, including data flow diagrams, review notes and outcomes, and inventory of systems.
- Assist in the development of actionable data privacy policies, standards, and guidelines.
- Acquire an expert-level knowledge in data privacy, through certification, self-study, and on-the-job training.
- Develop keen sense of balance between compliance and efficiency. Correct imbalance.
- Evangelize data governance and fuel organic growth. Promote, publicize, educate.
Qualifications:
- You are an absolute self-starter.
- 4+ years’ work experience in a data-intensive environment
- You have hands-on experience in at least 2 of the following areas:
- Governing data privacy, data security, and/or other data standards
- Functioning as a business or systems analyst (e.g. developing product, business or technical requirements)
- Functioning as a data steward or other data governance capacity
- Executing organizational processes (e.g. project management)
- Using/Analyzing data in a relational database setting (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL)
- Using/Analyzing data in a non-relational setting (e.g., S3, Hadoop)
- Broad understanding of data flows and database concepts
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Bachelor’s degree or above.
