Sr. Business Analyst, Data Governance & Literacy

“The growth of data is outpacing an organization’s ability to get value from it”, said a prominent research firm. The Data Governance & Literacy (DGL) team in Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is set up to instill a culture of effective and responsible use of data, thereby enabling a data-driven culture to harness the most value from our data. This is accomplished by governing data as a valuable enterprise asset (responsible) as well as continuously elevating the organization’s data literacy (effective). This role focuses on building out our data literacy program, starting with developing a world-class, context-rich, enterprise data catalog to enable data consumers can quickly find, understand and trust.
Reporting into SIE’s Data Strategy and Operations department, this role will expose you to all varieties of data and business functions. You will partner with various stakeholders including product managers, engineers, data scientists, and analytics professionals to understand their data needs, and devise strategies to help them cut down data discovery time and get to value generation quicker.

Responsibilities:
- Expand data catalog to include high-value data sources and assets, working towards our goal to create the most informative and crowd-source-based knowledge repository of our data assets.
- Become a subject matter expert in both the content and capabilities of the data catalog.
- Ideate, develop, and implement solutions to enrich the context of data, such as through extraction of meaningful metadata from other systems, or curation of high-value knowledge content.
- Build partnerships with data engineering and data consumer teams to embed sound governance practices to maintain the quality of content in the catalog.
- Develop relevant metrics and KPIs to assess the value, maturity, and quality of the catalog.
- Raise visibility through various channels of communication, and drive adoption to continuously enrich the catalog
Qualifications:
- You are an intrinsic self-starter
- 5+ years of experience as an analyst or project manager in a data-intensive environment.
- You have hands-on experience in at least 2 of the following areas:
- Building and supporting data catalogs (Alation, Collibra, IBM etc.)
- Performing metadata management, master data management, data lineage or quality management, or similar data governance activities
- Using/Analyzing data in a relational database setting (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, Snowflake)
- Using/Analyzing data in a non-relational setting (e.g., S3, Hadoop)
- Designing/optimizing organizational processes (e.g. PMO, Agile, Data Governance etc.)
- Passionate about understanding the big picture and delivering value
- Ability to facilitate discussions with senior staff and build cross-functional consensus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- BA/BS degree or equivalent
