Engineer II, Graphics
We have a phenomenal opportunity to join our Global Developer Technology Group here at PlayStation HQ in San Mateo, CA. We seek a graphics software engineer to assist studios from AAA to Indie, tackle complex engineering problems and research and develop innovative graphics techniques, algorithms, and tools. We offer flexible working hours and hybrid working, with most, though not all
days working from home. We don’t have crunch like some game teams and aim
to give staff a good work/life balance.
What You’ll Do
- Support, educate, and push the boundaries of game technology for developers
- Directed R&D with the opportunity to create new technologies for developers
- Have ownership of projects that impact PlayStation technology and game engineers directly
- Work with leading AAA studios and engineers around the world
- Become an expert in high-end computing graphics technology
- Focus on graphics and systems technology at the deepest levels and areas of specialization

Engineer II, Responsibilities
- Provide direct partner support through dedicated online developer portal, conferences calls, 1 on 1 meetings, etc.
- Investigate and identify issues for developers to resolve blockers through code, technical guidance, and documentation
- Fulfill department KPIs (Key-Performance-Indicators) which are directly tied to department support metrics such as quality of response, response times, resolution times, etc.
- Participate in internal/external training which is driven by developer needs. Including but not limited to creation of content for PlayStation partners at public and private events such as GDC, internal developer conferences, webinars, etc.

Engineer II, Estimated Work Time Distribution
- 70% Hands-on time providing technical guidance, researching solutions, debugging / implementing code, and improving documentation for partners
- 15% Research, development, and creation of internal / external developer training content
- 10% Mentorship and assistance for other engineers
- 5% Participating in team meetings and other administrative tasks

- Have worked with cutting edge graphics technology, R&D, or as a game developer
- Have experience working with and writing drivers, core technology
- Obsessed with optimizations and efficiency
- You like to tinker, reverse engineer, and make things better, faster
- Have a track record of delivering professional products within time and on budget
- Tired of long hours crunching at work and not having enough time for yourself and family
Requirements
- BS in Computer Science or equivalent
- Industry and/or academic experience within the supported domain (Gfx, Sys, Network, etc.)
- Industry and/or academic hands-on experience with graphics techniques, languages, APIs, and tools
- Strong C/C++ programing ability and structured programming knowledge
- Graphics experience, including understanding of GPU hardware and graphics pipelines
- Excellent analysis, debugging, problem-solving and code optimization skills

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.
Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.
$136,500 — $204,700 USD
