Job Description
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora™ is a first-person, action-adventure game developed by Massive Entertainment – a Ubisoft studio in collaboration with Lightstorm Entertainment and Disney. Built using the latest iteration of our Snowdrop engine, and developed exclusively for the new generation of consoles and PC, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora brings to life the alluring world of Pandora with all of its beauty and danger in an immersive, open-world experience.
As a Sound Designer at Massive you’ll combine sounds and technology to communicate ideas and feelings which will bring to life the player's journey through Pandora and improve the overall gaming experience. You will collaborate closely with an experienced team of Audio Designers along with Narrative, Cinematics, and the larger Dev team. For this particular opportunity, you'll have a special focus (at least initially) on Music too. Spotting and editing for the main campaign, you'll collaborate with both internal and external composers, and participate in live orchestral production.
This is an opportunity to work onsite at our newly revamped studio in Malmö Sweden ( well, at least 3-days per week ). And if you’re interested – please apply in English, our company language.
What you'll do
- A short term focus on Music Design before we release - spotting, editing, and collaborating with composers;
- Creating quality sound effects (studio/foley recordings, synthesis techniques), and utilizing pre-recorded in-house and commercial material;
- Linear sound designing and mixing for cut scenes and cinematics;
- Implementing assets into Wwise and Snowdrop (our in-house Game Engine), ensuring they perform as intended in-game;
- Acting as a mentor for more junior staff of the audio team and collaborating effectively with other departments, advocating your audio craftsmanship, and educating the rest of production when necessary;
- Ensuring documentation for your audio features is continually updated.
Qualifications
What you'll bring
You are a curious, creative, and quality-conscious audio designer enthusiastic about your craft. In addition to your Sound Design skills, you are excited about music design. You might have a background in film or games, but most importantly your communication skills and emphatic nature enables you to easily relate, understand and collaborate with your peers.
Besides the above we’re looking for someone aligned with our core values and the following skills and experience:
- A relevant showreel of your audio work is required;
- Professional experience as a sound/music designer in the video game and or movie industry;
- Previous experience with a major production through to release, ideally you have credits on at least 1-major AAA game title;
- Relevant degree in a Music/Audio field, or the equivalent work experience;
- Experience with the recording (both studio and field recording techniques), signal flow, processing, and mixing;
- Expert Wwise knowledge, audio post process plugins understanding, and performance optimization knowledge;
- Extensive knowledge of DAW tools (e.g. Nuendo, Pro Tools, Cubase, Reaper);
- Experience creating and mixing surround content;
- Understanding of the technical audio constraints regarding audio implementation, on current console platforms & PC and therefore the ability to accurately predict task duration and understand dependencies.
