Firaxis is searching for an experienced Senior Sound Designer to join its sound team delivering world class sound design across various projects. In this collaborative role you will be a champion for sound within the studio and work closely with audio directors and leads to support the overall audio vision.
As a seasoned veteran with a critical ear for quality you will collaborate with various disciplines and be a mentor to fellow audio teammates fostering a culture of growth and excellence. Autonomous in your work, you are passionate and motivated to push the boundaries of game audio and help the studio achieve our creative vision through sound.
A demo reel showcasing relevant sound design is required for consideration of this role
Responsibilities:
- Create and design unique sound assets to utilize across all aspects of our projects both linear and interactive
- Implement sound assets (SFX, Foley, Voice, Music, etc.) creatively within our game and audio engines across various projects and platforms
- Take ownership of audio features autonomously from conception to completion working closely with audio project leads and directors
- Collaborate closely with non-audio team-members (art, design, engineering, etc.) to support gameplay across various disciplines
- Identify areas of improvement regarding audio features, pipelines and overall sonic fidelity while offering and developing solutions for enhancement
- Troubleshoot and debug complex audio issues throughout development
- Be a mentor and foster a culture of growth and education within the audio team while being a champion for audio within the studio
Qualifications:
- 5+ Years game development experience focused on sound design and implementation or equivalent related experience
- At least one shipped AAA title – credited
- Proven track record as a contributing member of an audio team and/or pipeline
- A passion for audio and game development
- Highly skilled creating audio assets utilizing a wide range of tools and concepts
- Extensive knowledge of audio production standards and best practices within the games industry
- Highly proficient in AudioKinetic’s Wwise authoring tool-set
- Familiarity with version control (Perforce, etc.) and bug tracking software (Jira, etc.)
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral
- Knowledge of Unreal 4/5 development and visual node-based scripting tools is a plus
- Field recording experience is a plus
What a typical day might look like…
- As a Senior Sound Designer at Firaxis your typical day may include:
- Attending a weekly sound team stand up
- Editing a custom sound asset to be imported into Wwise and then implemented into the game engine
- Syncing the latest build to review your changes and adjust content as needed
- Attending a feature planning meeting to be sure audio is represented in the planning discussions and collaborating closely with production to ensure proper tasks have been created
- Updating an audio design document refining a feature improvement you’ve been working on
- Joining a team wide playtest and helping facilitate feedback and notes related to audio
- Providing feedback to a junior member of the audio team on how they might improve a sound asset they’ve been struggling to complete
