Undead Labs is looking for a contract sound designer to join the State of Decay 3 team. We’re seeking a creative and technically-minded sound designer who will amplify gameplay and create unforgettable moments for our millions of State of Decay fans. You'll work closely with the audio team, as well as designers, programmers, and artists, to help build the sonic experience of the game. With a mutually successful engagement, this position has the potential to be converted into a full-time position.

Core Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of the Audio Director, design tailored SFX for the game utilizing custom recordings and library assets
  • Implement sounds into the game using our middleware tool: Audiokinetic Wwise
  • Collaborate with our Technical Sound Designer to implement audio through Blueprints (UE5)
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure that audio implementation pipelines meet multidisciplinary feature needs
  • Record and edit custom assets for the game from the Audio team backlog
  • Contribute to Undead Labs’ custom SFX library by editing SFX and embedding metadata
  • Assist the Audio team in field recording trips by ensuring proper gear is onsite and takes are tracked and cataloged

Basic Skills, Knowledge, Experience

  • Proficient with modern DAW (Pro Tools, Reaper, etc.) and audio middleware software programs (Wwise)
  • Solid understanding of audio science and technology including sample rates, bit depth, compression formats, Nyquist Theorem, etc.
  • In-depth experience of audio manipulation techniques including audio file waveform editing, compression, equalization, gating, and noise reduction
  • An ability to communicate effectively across disciplines

Bonus Traits

  • Experience implementing content in a third-person, systemic game
  • Knowledge of Unreal Blueprints
  • Familiarity with open world systems and procedural audio
  • Shipped at least one AAA title as a sound designer
  • Experience collaborating with programmers to implement audio
  • Deep understanding of the survival-fantasy gaming landscape

Physical Requirements

  • Close vision to monitors and screens
  • Consistent work on computer equipment, such as keyboards and monitors
  • Long periods of sitting
  • Onsite work (once it begins again) in low-to-moderate noise environments
