The opportunity
We are the Unity Simulation team, focused on enabling industrial users–from robotics, autonomous driving, drones, agtech and more–to use Unity to build massive simulations, such as million-square-foot warehouses with dozens of robots and hundreds of sensors. Our customers use these simulations to test software against realistic virtual worlds, to teach and train robot operators, and to try physical integrations ahead of implementing them in the real world.
The goal of the Unity Simulation Physics team is to ensure that we can support the physics simulation requirements of these industrial customers. The primary responsibility is to make sure we’re making the right bets on the underlying physics engine, taking into account feature sets, performance, integration and maintenance costs, and dependency risks. Another responsibility is to develop a set of dynamic vehicle models to reduce the time to ‘Hello, World!’
As the Engineering Manager for this team, you will play a key role in defining the technical strategy for Unity Simulation Physics. You’ll also foster a healthy, collaborative team culture where engineers can do their best work. Your work will have a huge impact on how Unity can be used in industries beyond gaming!
What you'll be doing
- Work closely with your manager, PMs, and customers to align on the team’s missions and priorities
- Establish long-term technical and product vision, with a continuous focus on inventing on behalf of customers
- Build, coach, and mentor a world-class engineering team
- Unblock obstacles and empower the team to do their best work
- Own the quality of your team’s deliverables
What we're looking for
- Experience building, retaining, and managing high-performing, diverse, and inclusive teams, and in growing and mentoring software engineers
- Solid understanding of vehicle dynamics
- Experience with Unity, Unreal, Bullet, ODE, Chrono, MuJoCo, or any other 3D game engine or simulator
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build relationships across the company and across country boundaries
You might also have
- Advanced degree in physics, mechanical engineering, or a related field
- Experience with integration and maintenance of physics engines
- Knowledge of C#
