An individual contributor who is responsible for implementing elegant and accessible game UI, as well as supporting the underlying technology that powers it for State of Decay 3. As a member of the software engineering team, you will work in close collaboration with designers and other colleagues to understand feature requirements and bring them to life, all the while pushing the envelope of our web-based UI tech.
Your ability to keep up with the ever-changing world of web development, as well as a passion for best-in-class developer experience will be critical to your success. As a UI engineer on the team, you play a critical role in bringing together backend gameplay systems with beautiful interfaces from designers. Core Responsibilities and Objectives
- Collaborate closely with a team of UX/UI designers, artists and engineers to implement game UI using modern web technologies (TypeScript, React, et cetera)
- Build custom design and asset pipelines to streamline UI authoring and design/engineering handoffs
- Contribute to core UI framework and help establish best practices around UI concerns like localization, accessibility, input management, data-binding, and more
- Continuously evaluate open-source or paid off-the-shelf UI solutions that improve our developer experience and product
- Apply your knowledge, critical thinking skills, unique perspective and ideas to the production of our games
Core Traits and Experience
- Experience with modern web development, specifically with large scale React applications
- Familiar with browser performance optimization techniques, and able to intuit potential bottlenecks in code/architecture
- Passionate about developer experience and workflows, with a desire to improve how UI is created
- Pragmatic, with the ability to balance technical needs with business limitations
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders and across disciplines
- Ideally brings 2-5 years of experience in a software engineering role
Bonus Traits and Experience
- Experience with Unreal Engine 4
- Experience with Coherent Gameface
- Experience writing custom plugins for designer tools like Figma and After Effects
- In touch with open-source ecosystem

- Close vision to monitors and screens, consistently working on computer equipment such as keyboards and monitors, long periods of sitting.
