We’re Criterion, and we love making games!

From Burnout and Need for Speed to the critically acclaimed VR mission for Star Wars Battlefront, Starfighter Assault on Battlefront ll and Battlefield V: Firestorm, Criterion have always pushed the boundaries, delivering through technical excellence, outstanding game feel and AAA audiovisual quality.

We place enormous value on creative collaboration, fresh ideas, and unique perspectives. Our studio is a healthy mix of industry veterans and newcomers working together to inspire, support, and educate one another. We encourage free experimentation, innovation and exploration with regular “off-the-grid” time.

Criterion celebrates the skills you arrive with. We give you the autonomy to express these skills and to develop new ones. We have a working rhythm that reforms our teams with self selection according to the priorities of the game you’re working on.

The working day has space carved out for everyone to play games – by themselves or together, be they tabletop or video games, we love them all. Learning from the widest range of experiences makes our own games better.

Over the years, we’ve learned that crunching is flat-out stupid, so we don’t do it.

What a Senior Tools Engineer does at Criterion:

At Criterion we love making games. We also love getting better at making games. One way of improving the way we make games is by having better tools to help everyone on the team do their job better, faster and with less friction. As a tools engineer you will use your skills to identify ways of making people's everyday game making easier through creation and modification of tools and workflows. You will work with all disciplines within the studio and be challenged with fresh and new opportunities daily. You will embed with these teams to provide end-to-end solutions in a live development environment. You will be supported by a great team of experienced engineers and will be a necessary part of delivering the player experience on time and at quality.

The next great Criterion Senior Tools Engineer also needs:

On a technical level, you will need experience building tools with C++ and C#. But also a sense of adventure, a desire to try things quickly and the good sense to know when something is not working right or is simply crazy. We value engineers who can think for themselves and be creative with the solutions they offer and can achieve incremental benefits to the team as the solution is developed. You will need to create and demonstrate solutions to lots of people, lots of the time. There will be something new every week and every day and you will need to adapt to that change and helping that change be for the better.

What’s in it for you? Glad you asked!
