The opportunity
Are you passionate about programming and have an interest in working with low level code generation or compilers? This opportunity could be the right place for you to make an impact!
We are the burst team within Core at Unity. Core is our engineering group working directly on the tools and features of the engine and as the burst team and we are developing a compiler technology to compile .NET code to highly efficient native code. We use the LLVM compiler which is successfully used today in production to optimize the game code of our users. As part of this compiler we would like to provide better compiler diagnostics and guidance to help our users to get the best of it!
You will work with the team to improve the Burst inspector and to explore new ideas to provide meaningful compiler guidance to our users.
Expect to learn. A lot. We know you might not know the programming languages, tools, and processes we use, but we want to help you learn them. What we do expect is your critical thinking and teamwork skills to make an impact on our work!

What you'll be doing
- Learning and getting to know the compiler architecture
- Designing and implementing new features within the compiler
- Participating in the improvement of the quality of the compiler by doing bug fixes or writing tests
- Participating and contributing in the weekly team and tech meetings
- Discussing technical topics
What we're looking for
- You are currently studying in a relevant subject such as computer science or engineering and looking for a student worker position
- You have a passion for programming languages
- You love solving complex problems
- You enjoy collaborating with others
You might also have
- Passion for compilers
- Knowledge of LLVM
- C# and/or C++ knowledge
- Low level assembler languages (x86 or ARM)
- Experience using the Unity Engine and Editor
