Software Engineer, Server Co-op - Summer 2023

Rec Room is the best place to build and play games together. The Server Team creates and maintains the scalable backend services that power the online Rec Room universe, enabling everything from user-generated content sharing, to clubs, commerce, chat, and more. We are a small team of passionate service engineers who are working to enable the next level of community features, guaranteeing scalability and security across a community of millions.
We are offering full time Co-ops & Internships to Graduate Students & Seniors who are interested in working in the Games Industry. These are paid internships where you will be embedded on a development team, with the goal of shipping features to Rec Room by the end of your Co-Op or Internship. We will be prioritizing students who are within 1-2 terms of graduating as the goal is to present each student with a full-time offer at the end of their internship.
Summer 2023
EXAMPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, build, implement and maintain significant portions of the backend services, ensuring they are operationally sound
- Work autonomously, solving technical design and development problems
- Collaborate with teams across Rec Room to build great new technology for our players
REQUIREMENTS
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program or a master’s degree program in computer science or a similar program
- Experience using and/or familiarity writing RESTful backend services with C#/ ASP.NET or similar technologies
- Experience working with relational databases (i.e. SQL)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-moving, ambiguous development environment.
- A constant desire to learn, improve, and help others improve
- To be eligible to participate in our internship/co-op program, you must be available for full-time work during our core hours (10:00am - 4:30pm Pacific Time).
BONUS POINTS
- Experience writing stateless distributed systems.
- Experience with Entity Framework, ASP.NET
- Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services
- Experience working on backend services for social networks
- Experience with Game Development and Game Engines (preferably Unity)
- Experience with Personalization or Machine Learning
- Experience with live services and rapid-deployment
- Ability and interest in converting to full time at the end of the internship
- Experience in games or a closely-related field (school projects or small/indie games are great)

The base pay range for this position is $85,095.00 per year; however, the base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, location, skills, and experience.
