The Role:
We’re looking for a talented backend software engineer to join our team and elevate Supernatural’s feature set, fitness scoring, data pipeline, and user personalization.
At Supernatural we move fast in a rigorous and creative environment. The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, comfortable exploring unfamiliar databases and codebases, and take initiative in solving tough problems. This is a software engineering position, and you will be a core team member responsible for developing robust API services and backend systems that powers the foundation of Supernatural applications at scale.
Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of Supernatural and develop new product features with complex data needs. This includes telemetry data, recommendation, user reactivation strategy, new workout modalities, workout scoring, application performance data, network throughput and device debugging information.
- Maintain and optimize a real time game metrics pipeline that moves data for all Supernatural users.
- Submit to and participate in code review to sharpen software engineering skills with peers
- Maintain and create technical documentation
- Write unit tests and collaborate with an SDET engineer to write integration tests
Required Qualifications:
- BS/MS degree in Computer Science, similar technical field of study or equivalent industry experience
- 3-5+ years of software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages for server-side development
- Understanding of SQL commands, SQL functions, ORMs and database schema design
- Comfort with server side languages (Python, PHP, Lua, Perl, Node.js or equivalent)
- Experience working collaboratively with a professional team
- Experience working on short timelines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- An understanding of design patterns and clean idiomatic code
Desired Qualifications:
- 1+ years of unit test and integration test writing experience with a thorough understanding of at least one test framework
- Experience working on cross-disciplinary, art, programming, production, and technology teams.
- Passion for Fitness
- Passion for VR/AR
- Version control (Perforce, SVN, Git, or equivalent)
- Continuous integration (Jenkins, Buildbot, or equivalent)
- Experience with AWS
- Experience working with a start-up
