Software Development Intern

The Sustained Engineering team collaborates with R&D to maintain and improve the quality of all released versions of Unity, across all areas of the Unity Editor and Engine. We solve hard problems in a supportive environment and embody the Unity values of Best Ideas Win, Go Bold, In It Together and Users First.

Help us fix tricky software engineering problems directly affecting our users, including some of the biggest studios in the world.

Identify which issues are worth fixing — and will be safe to fix for everyone — in our daily triage process.

You will assist us to improve the quality of our code using industry respected commercial tools and technology and to help us move fixes from the bleeding edge of Unity R&D back into the hands of users, in our released versions.

You will gain exposure to the entire Unity codebase, and an opportunity to learn how software development works on a project of enormous scale — and perhaps more importantly, how it occasionally doesn’t!

You’ll be able to discover more about the full range of technologies underpinning modern game development, and learn about different subject areas while making them better for everyone.

This is an 11 month paid internship starting in summer 2021, based in the Brighton, UK office.

Responsibilities

• Fixing real bugs in live versions of Unity
• Investigating where problems were introduced, and where they were fixed
• Writing automated tests to make sure bugs don’t reappear, and improve the quality of Unity — permanently
• Collaborating with teams using quality tools to improve the Unity codebase
• Influencing the commitments we make about quality, and protecting the integrity of the released versions

Requirements

• Currently studying towards a Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar degree and looking for a placement year, or graduating in 2023
• Know at least one programming language really well

Bonus Points

• C++ or C# experience
• Methodical nature — you enjoy Solving Hard Problems
• You used Unity before, for fun or profit
