Software Developer, Automated Performance Analysis Team

The Performance Testing Team is responsible for giving engineers at Unity the tools they need to ensure that the Unity engine is performing at a world-class level: that Unity is fast, and uses resources efficiently, across all the platforms and use cases that Unity supports.

We are looking for developers to help us build the next generation of these tools, with a particular emphasis on user-focused development and working with data at scale. As a member of the team, you will be helping to build these tools, creating solutions to problems around data ingestion and storage, asynchronous processing, result caching, and more.

Can you help us create a solution that can derive actionable insights from gigabytes of performance data generated from complex projects, but can also help a single developer understand that their change has regressed a particular micro-benchmark within a few seconds of them making it?

Succeeding in this role will have a direct impact on Unity’s standing as a high-performance engine, helping us ensure that the world’s game developers are able to get the most out of the hardware, and to use energy as efficiently as possible.

Responsibilities

• Building a pipeline, database, and set of services for ingesting, storing, and extracting insights from performance data
• Collaborating with engineers across Unity R&D to understand their workflows and use cases
• Working with platform teams to increase the richness of the data we capture, and the value of the insights we can derive from it
• Driving performance to become a routine consideration for all developers at Unity
• Supporting engineers in creating test cases to monitor performance in specific scenarios

Requirements

• Experience working with terabyte+ scale datasets
• Understanding of microservice architectures
• Proficient in the C# and Go programming languages

Bonus points

• Experience optimizing performance of applications, ideally games
• Experience working with performance tooling and data
• Experience working in HPC scenarios
• User-centric mindset - passionate about putting them first
• Good communication skills (both written and verbal in English)
