What we do:

We are looking for an Site Reliability Engineer for our Gateway team, who are responsible for the gateway layer of Demonware's architecture. The Gateway is written in Erlang, and handles authentication, encryption and routing to all backend services, managing millions of concurrent connections daily. It must maintain the highest level of uptime.

We provide our technology to other internal teams in a self-service model to configure and deploy for their game titles. You would be helping to evolve this model to better suit the needs of our customers and to minimize their operational overhead.

Your responsibilities:

• Maintain and evolve the gateway’s operational platform to improve our self-serve model
• Collaborate closely with other teams who run Gateway tech, ensuring their requirements are met in a timely appropriate manner
• Drive the direction of our operational architecture, taking into account our dedication to maximum reliability for players and internal customers alike
• Ensure all components are highly scalable and maintainable
• Own the features, components and tooling being built
• Partner with other specialists to solve problems with our gateway technology and its operational platform, and provide an excellent customer experience
• Work on standard methodologies for backend operations and integration

About you:

• Relevant work experience, including in a high-volume or critical production service environment
• Experience working at scale - thousands of servers running a high-volume or critical production service environment
• Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
• Automation / scripting skills and a desire to automate all the things
• Comfortable with at least one scripting language, e.g. Python or Ruby.
• Solid understanding of fundamental technologies, e.g. TCP/IP, Linux/Unix internals
• Experience with configuration management systems, e.g. Puppet, Ansible, Terraform
• Demonstrable capacity for an investigative approach and keen to learn new technologies
• Ability to analyze requirements and make corresponding design decisions
• Demonstrated excellence in communicating within and across teams
• Ability to complete complex tasks with minimal supervision

Bonus:

• Experience working with public cloud providers and cloud technologies
• Experience working with container orchestration e.g. Kubernetes
• Experience in monitoring and metrics systems, e.g. Nagios, Zabbix, Graphite, Cacti
• Experience with Erlang
• A background in Software Engineering
• Experience with game development or game engines
