Senior UI & Tools Programmer

Creative team is an award winning internal creative agency within PlayStation Studios. We endeavour to build a working environment where our people thrive and create their best work. Structured around five core fields; Brand Design, UI/UX, Motion Graphics, Film and Video we deliver projects in collaboration with our game development and marketing/PR teams.
Role Overview:
As a member of our talented multi-discipline UX/UI team you’ll be working with us to implement rich and engaging user experiences for a diverse range of different PlayStation games and applications. You will collaborate with both internal teams and also work closely with our clients from across PlayStation Studios. The team has previously designed interfaces and experiences for games such as Dreams, Destruction AllStars, Erica, and the award winning Returnal. We predominantly work remotely but encourage office attendance at least once a week for team building and collaboration. Although based within the UI/UX team the successful candidate will be a multi-disciplined software engineer and will be expected to work on projects that require a variety of generic game dev skills, for example, UI, game systems engineering, rendering and visual effects. We are seeking an expert Unreal Engine 5 programmer, however, experience in other commercial game engines and interests in learning other in-house PlayStation Studios engines will be welcome!
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the full development process of each feature, from initial concept, through to design, implementation, testing and bug fixing.
- Collaboratively design and implement functionality based on project high level concepts and goals.
- Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code by following industry standards.
- Ensure the best possible performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications.
- Identify bottlenecks and bugs, and devise solutions to address and mitigate these problems.
- Collaborate closely with QA and publishing teams to help deliver the final product.
Requirements:
- Excellent up-to-date knowledge of Unreal Engine 4 or 5, including proficiency with C++ code and UE Visual Scripting Blueprints.
- Ability to breakdown and develop game features and subsystems.
- Ability to research evolving game standards.
- Ability to join and quickly adapt to an established team agile workflow, while contributing to continuously improving it.
- Experience with 3D geometry and mathematical concepts.
- Experience with writing shader code.
- Experience optimizing memory and storage space usage.
- Ability to write clean, readable, and easily maintainable code.
- Proficient knowledge of code versioning tools such as Git and Perforce.
Advantageous skills:
- Prior experience on a published console title.
- Appreciation of UI/UX design and concepts.
- Knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, Bash or similar.
- Unreal Engine 4/5 Graphics Pipeline.
