Senior VFX Artist

We are looking for a Senior VFX Artist to join us in bringing to life an exciting new unannounced project. The VFX Artist will work with an experienced and delightful team of game developers to create memorable moments and immersive experiences. In collaboration with the Art Director and Game Director, the VFX Artist will help craft a visual style for VFX in the game, and provide performant and expressive effects. The VFX Artist will also work with the Tools Team to help identify and develop the VFX toolkit for the studio.
Responsibilities:
- Create breathtaking effects across all areas of the game, ranging from UI, to environments, to characters and combat.
- Work alongside the Art Director and VFX Lead to produce a shared vision of effects while managing that balance between eye catching effects and gameplay clarity.
- Optimize effects for performance on multiple platforms.
- Collaborate across disciplines to develop characters and other features, and identify challenges and find solutions.
- Build a comprehensive knowledge of the VFX art production pipelines, tools, and systems associated with the creation of VFX content.
- Actively develop and improve skills and abilities by staying aware of industry trends and techniques, evaluating competitive products, learning new software packages, and putting traditional art methods into practice.
- Demonstrate strong time management and prioritization skills.
Required Skills:
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a real-time VFX artist, having shipped at least one title.
- Ability to deconstruct complex visual effects from reference and recreate them in a game engine.
- Strong proficiency in creating VFX textures.
- Strong sense of lighting, color, form, and motion.
- Proficiency in creating node-based shaders/materials.
- Experience in Photoshop, Maya/Blender, and popular game engines.
- Strong proficiency in technical problem solving.
- Self-motivated with the ability to collaborate effectively on a team; exhibiting strong communication, time management, and prioritization skills.
Bonus Skills:
- Hand drawn 2D animation experience.
- Houdini or other VFX tooling experience.
- Experience working in proprietary game engines.
As a part of the application process, candidates will be expected to provide a portfolio or demo reel of their work and may be asked to complete an art test.
The base annual salary range for this position in the United States is $70,000 - $150,000. The base salary is just one part of the overall compensation package. This base pay range is for the United States only and does not apply to international locations. The range for each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by location and additional factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
