User Research Analyst, Consumer Research

The Consumer Research Department at Gearbox Publishing is looking for a User Research Analyst to join our team! The User Research Analyst is responsible for analyzing and interpreting player feedback and game telemetry data for titles across the Gearbox portfolio. In addition, this role will assist in the development of research methods and testing paradigms, and data collection tools and approaches. The User Research Analyst is also responsible for advocating for data analysis best practices and for helping to improve the department’s capabilities through continued training, education, and research.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze, interpret, and derive insights from quantitative and qualitative User Research data for all titles in the Gearbox portfolio, including but not limited to written or verbal player feedback; categorical data; quantitative, continuous, or parametric data derived from game telemetry; and psychometric, cognitive, or behavioral data from players.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Consumer Research Department on the design and implementation of lab-based, remote, and field studies, and on the reporting and communication of results and insights.
  • Act on data requests from Gearbox stakeholders and external partners.
  • Investigate new analysis techniques and tools through continued training, education, and research.
  • Advocate for best practices and use of data within the department and across disciplines.

Qualifications:

  • 1+ years product testing and/or User Research data analysis experience, or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s Degree (B.S., B.A.) in psychology, sociology, human factors, cognitive science, statistics, another relevant field, or equivalent.
  • Background, training, and/or course study related to quantitative statistical analysis of human behavior, complex system telemetry, large data sets (i.e. "Big Data"), and experimental study data collected in a research environment.
  • Familiarity with one or more statistical software packages or languages for social science data (e.g. R, SPSS, SAS, Stata).
  • Familiarity with one or more survey or questionnaire tools or software packages (e.g. Qualtrics, Survey Monkey).
  • Strong ability to multitask and collaborate on two or more projects or parallel efforts.
  • Knowledge and understanding of video game systems, mechanics, structure, and how players interact with them.

Bonus Points For:

  • Familiarity with experimental design and User Research best practices from the games industry or related technical field that includes customer product testing.
  • Proficiency with Tableau or other BI visualization software.
  • Proficiency with SQL.
  • Experience with behavioral data modeling and simulation techniques.
  • Interest in and enthusiasm for video games.
