Senior User Experience Designer
The Games Technology team encompasses a whole host of data and analytics expertise areas, including (but not limited to) machine learning, build and submission tools, and cloud infrastructure. Powered by Beacon, Rovio's in-house cloud services platform, the team supports tens of millions of players, capturing 4 billion events and over 1TB of data per day. All of this work results in services and tools that enable successful live operations and continuous optimization in Rovio’s games.
As a UX Designer in Games Technology you will help bring our games to life through Beacon, our platform for game development and operations. You will design and build services for our game teams with your work ensuring fun for millions players globally. You will create new services and improve existing tools including live ops calendar, advertising and cross-promotion and player communication services.
You might call yourself a Product Designer or Service Designer, and that’s ok as well. Together with another UX designer in the tech team, and the guild of UX and UR folks across Rovio, you will work with our game studios, ads and UA teams, BI and with the developers in Games Technology.
Responsibilities
- Design the user experience of new services / tools, following the patterns and style set by our existing tools. Challenge our old patterns when needed.
- Interview and discuss with Rovio teams their work in relation to new features or services that we are planning. Communicate findings to the development team, and work together to design and implement a product that improves how other teams work.
- Help prioritise work between services that we support; which improvements are likely to bring most value to the users; how do you balance requirements from game teams against those of business analysts or customer support.
- Take ownership from discovery to design to ensuring implementation
Who we think will do great in this role
- You’ve already designed the UX for several web services, and can talk about how you turned complex problems into streamlined experiences.
- You’re familiar with different user insight methods, so that you can better understand what causes pains in the current work, and how those might be better addressed in the new designs.
- You can handle multiple domains and balance between multiple projects when needed — our product covers many areas of game development and sometimes things happen all at once.
- You think strategically for the long term and can communicate how your designs fit the bigger picture.
- You are comfortable working with different UI design and prototyping tools. We currently use Axure RP and Adobe XD.
We’d love if you have some of these (non-mandatory):
- 5 years of UX design experience
- A portfolio or examples of your work
- Have worked in an agile development team (product owner, UX design, front-end, server, client, data, ML and QA)
- Have worked as a product owner on design led projects
- Experience of building services for non-technical (producers, customer support) and technical (developers) audience
The interview process consists of four steps:
Initial call: We will want to get a basic understanding of who you are, what you have done and what you want to do.
1st Interview: You will meet the hiring manager and our UX Design lead. We will want to know who you are, what motivates you and discuss your skills. This is also an opportunity for you to learn more about Rovio and the specifics of the role.
Exercise : You will do an exercise to complete in your own time. It won't take too much of your time.
Final round : You will be invited to meet the team and to present the exercise. Our aim is to get a clear overview of your skills, how you would fit with our working culture, your ambitions and how we can support your personal growth.
