We’re ArenaNet—we’ve created a studio that makes online worlds infused with innovation, hand-crafted excellence, and creative passion. We're not the only ones who share this passion; gamers made Guild Wars 2 the fastest selling MMO game in the West with more than 3 million copies sold in its first 9 months, and players and press have consistently called it one of the best MMOs of all time.

Our studio is built on foundations of excellence with a focus on community. We constantly innovate, unlocking the true potential of online role-playing with game-changing titles like Guild Wars 2 and beyond. The status quo is not good enough for our dedicated worldwide community of players, which is why we question the de facto industry conventions and demand more from ourselves as developers.

We are looking for an experienced Tools Engineer to drive narrative tool innovations in the Unreal Engine. You'll work with gameplay engineers, writers, and designers to create a friction-free workflow for storytelling. The ideal candidate (you!) would be interested in the entire process: Helping writers get the words from their brains into a computer, enabling designers to turn those words into compelling gameplay, and ultimately developing the pipeline by which those words are translated and voiced in multiple languages.

Additionally, you will be responsible for making informed determinations about when to utilize existing tools and frameworks, when to modify them for our own purposes, and when an entirely new tool or workflow process is necessary to achieve our goals.

If you are excited to be a force multiplier for a team of incredibly talented developers, removing the barriers that stand between an idea and an implementation, and enabling innovative new methods of storytelling, this is the role for you!

About Our Team

The Engineering team at ArenaNet thrives on a wide array of perspectives, experiences, and interests. We know that the best creations come from healthy and friendly teams. Our work is woven together with the efforts of other disciplines and crafts within game development. We seek out voices and ideas that might be new to us. We are always on the lookout for ways to help each other, both within the Engineering team, and throughout the studio as a whole.

Who We Are Looking For

You, our ideal candidate, are experienced with a modern version of the Unreal Engine and have a good working knowledge of game content tools, asset pipelines, and the text localization process.

Understanding the needs of teammates of various disciplines is critical to succeeding in this role. You feel comfortable working with writers, gameplay engineers, and content designers as well as the localization and audio teams to enable solutions that meet the needs of all stakeholders.

Building a tool is only the first step. You are skilled at debugging not only programs, but entire human-driven processes. You can identify bottlenecks and pain points in workflows, develop solutions, and gather customer feedback for continuous improvement.
