What You'll Do
We are looking for a Senior Technical Writer to help steer the internal content strategy and deliver high-quality documentation to internal users of complex Identity and Access Management (IAM) and Cybersecurity products and services. You will interview engineers, architects, and support team members to plan, develop, write, edit, and publish clear, consistent documentation for a variety of technical audiences.
You will be a part of a team of content professionals delivering the right content at the right time to help IT and the rest of the company solve technical issues quickly and get back to building virtual worlds. While a technical background is highly preferred, the ability to work cross-functionally with engineering teams, support teams, and producers while easily pivoting as business needs change is more important.
As a senior member of the team, you will have the autonomy to make decisions, prioritize your own work, and lead the content strategy planning for your area while also contributing to Documentation Team process improvement efforts
In this role, you will
- Lead documentation projects of medium to large scope from concept to release and own the quality of the documentation for assigned products and service that requires heavy collaboration within and outside IT.
- Produce high-quality internal and external technical documentation through writing, rewriting, and translating engineering data into findable, usable content intended for a variety of audiences.
- Craft original documentation, perform substantive editing, engage in independent research and interviewing SMEs to build knowledge about IT’s products, services, technology, or concepts to be documented with a high level of attention to detail.
- Communicate directly to end-users about changes that impact their work and provide instructions or other documentation as necessary.
- Create and enhance documentation and develop standards, procedures, and guidelines for IT and other technical teams.
What we're looking for
- 5+ years of experience in technical communication IT or software development environment.
- Familiar with IAM platforms such as Okta, Microsoft Azure, CyberArk, and AWS.
- Familiar with the technologies that support Multi-factor Authentication (MFA), Single Sign-on (SSO), user directories such as Active Directory, and secrets/password management such as Thycotic and LastPass.
- Familiar with the basic principles of Cybersecurity / Information Security.
- Direct experience documenting products or services aimed at technical users.
- Aptitude for quickly learning and understanding new technologies.
- Experience managing Confluence wiki spaces (Server or Data Center preferred) and using macros.
- Experience authoring in Google Suite or Microsoft Office.
- Comfortable performing peer editing and coaching.
- Fluency in English, both written and oral.
Unique Qualifications
- Experience with or writing about Okta SSO configurations and integrations.
- Ability to work under vague requirements in a fast-paced environment with many stakeholders that value transparency and flexibility.
- Experience exploring a customer’s problem space and addressing their needs through information and documentation.
- Empathy, creativity, and resourcefulness (such as reading code to understand what's going on).
- A “jump in and do it” attitude with the ability to get work done independently.
- Is comfortable participating in cross-functional team meetings, at times dealing with the challenges of global time zones.
- Isn't afraid to suggest improvements that will benefit the documentation team.
- Familiarity with Agile development and managing tasks in Jira.
