The opportunity
Unity’s Emerging Technology team seeks generalist technical directors with a passion for creating high-fidelity characters. You will be reporting to the Manager, Emerging Technology, Characters, and will help democratize the future of facial animation technology.
Our Characters team partners with VFX and AAA game studios to assist them as they adopt Ziva’s muscle simulation and facial animation tools into their pipelines, guide them as they seek to produce top-quality creatures and characters, and improve the toolchains ourselves in order to enhance our customers’ success and improve Ziva’s products for everyone.
As a generalist technical director, you will build high-quality faces and bodies for our customers using the latest tools from the Ziva product team, as well as guiding our customers’ art teams to guide them through the process of adopting and using the Ziva tools to achieve the best possible quality of facial motion. You’ll collaborate with the rest of the Characters team and the Ziva product team to improve the Ziva tools and optimize the character production experience.
What you’ll be doing

- Solving complex technical problems with creative and technical solutions in emerging areas of 4D scanning and machine learning technologies

What we’re looking for
- Experience working as a technical director or character technical artist in feature films and/or AAA games
- Experience with at least one scripting language (Python preferred)
- An ability to work independently and in a team environment, where you contribute back as much as you will learn in an environment that fosters creative problem solving and experimentation
- Deep understanding of Maya and comfortable learning and contributing to the development of proprietary tools and pipelines
- A desire to achieve excellence
You might also have
- Experience as a programmer, technical animator, or motion capture artist
- Experience creating character/creature authoring and animation pipelines for real-time 3D engines such as Unity or Unreal
- A curiosity about and willingness to learn new emerging technologies to help solve sophisticated technical and creative problems
