Senior Technical Designer

We are looking for a talented and experienced Senior Technical Designer to join an established group of developers at Motive Vancouver. This is an opportunity to join a veteran team and help craft the vision and execution of an innovative and immersive action adventure experience using the cutting-edge Frostbite Engine.
In this role, you will champion the technical needs of the design team, build and lead a team of technical designers, work with the leadership team to create long term strategic roadmaps, act as a technical reference for team members, and help with the implementation of the more technically challenging elements of the game. You will also work closely with the Design Leads team to ensure features are delivered to the highest quality and optimization standards.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Tech director to create, oversee and execute on a vision for the future of tech, tools and process for the team
- Partner with the Tech Director, Design Director and Technical Art Director to define how the design team will work with the other disciplines
- Oversee the production and implementation of the technical elements of a complete game feature by working with designers, programmers and technical artists
- Define standards and best practices for all technical designers
- Manage and lead a team of technical designers day to day
- Create short and long term roadmaps for designer tools required for the project
- Champion designers’ implementation needs for the project and balance it with the requirements for other teams
- Actively communicate progress, risks and challenges to the leadership team
- Contribute to optimization and validation of technical implementation of other designers
- Create tutorials and host learning sessions to improve the team’s ability to effectively execute on features in the engine
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience working on AAA titles
- 2+ shipped titles in a technical design role
- Proven ability to set direction and successfully lead a team to deliver AAA quality experiences
- Strong knowledge and experience with gameplay systems
- Understanding of scripting/programming concepts as well as math and logical concepts
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- A strong desire to help make other designers day to day workflows better
- A positive, collaborative, team-centric mentality
- Comfortable working within a large, cross-disciplinary team
- Willingness to iterate and adapt designs
- Passion for games and gaming
