If you’re a passionate game developer, and, well, a good human being, then we’d love to talk to you. We have a new AAA survival game in the works, set in a new IP for PC/Console. As a Technical Designer, you will have proven experience working in a collaborative team environment, building shippable game features and gameplay system architecture in visual scripts for modern AAA titles. You will take your understanding of engines and scripting languages, along with your designer intuition to create scripts that drive complex systems and engaging content which will help foster Blizzard’s core value of “Gameplay First”. You will develop and own fundamental building blocks of gameplay, complex gameplay implementation, game systems, pipelines, and standards. You will also work closely with engineers to develop and improve the engine and tool features.
We need your help with:
- Cultivating and maintaining collaborative relationships with design, engineering, art, QA, and production
- Collaborating with other disciplines in the development of designer processes, tools, and workflows
- Championing designer tools and workflows
- Designing, implementing, and iterating on complex systems and content
- Developing gameplay systems architecture using in engine data and scripting
- Mentoring other designers to improve their scripting an implementation capabilities
- Contributing to design discussions embracing Blizzard's core value of "Every voice matters," creating a safe space for collaboration, communication, and creativity across all disciplines and departments.
What you’re good at
- 5+ years as a designer on the production of a AAA title
- 2+ years as a technical designer
- Shipped content in multiple design areas (levels, systems, encounters, UI, etc.)
- Experience in pipeline development and process improvement
- Experience in scripting or programming game content
- Deep understanding of design workflows in multiple game editors
- Ability to create design documents for game systems and tools features.
Bonus points for:
- Experience with AAA game engines such as Source, Unreal, Unity, or CryEngine
- Experience developing multiplayer games
- Experience with first person shooter or survival games
- Having a computer science, computer engineering, mathematics, or related degree.
You’ll need to provide us with:

Remote Policy: this is a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work from home. The possible home studios for this role are Irvine, CA or Albany, NY. We understand each person's circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore possible interim options.

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $80,800.00 - $149,400.00 Annual. This base pay range is for the U.S. and is not applicable to locations outside of the U.S. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
