Senior Technical Artist

We are Mythical Games. A Venture-backed next-generation game technology company at the intersection of video games and economics led by industry veterans. Our goal is to lead the industry with the launch of exceptional video game experiences that leverage distributed ledger technology, while also providing a platform of robust tools that will allow any other game developers to do the same.
We are currently looking for an experienced, creative, and artistically talented Senior Technical Artist to join our growing Creative Team based in Seattle, WA. The Senior Technical Artist will have an expert understanding of the technical aspects of art creation and pipelines for AAA video games. Our ideal candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of game development, enforces best practices amongst the art team, can communicate complex problems clearly between departments, and has a strong vision for pushing tools and tech in creative but applicable ways. The Senior Technical Artist will be an excellent problem solver with strong and varying technical knowledge and a solid understanding of the Game Animation pipeline.

COVID-19 Hiring Update: We’ve transitioned to a work-from-home model and were continuing to interview and hire during this time. This role is expected to begin as a remote position. We understand each person’s circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore possible interim options.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain and improve the efficiency of the content pipeline and workflows
- Create, support, and improve artist tools (Maya or otherwise) and help standardize workflows
- Set up character/prop rigs and/or other asset types that require specialist knowledge
- Create, improve, and debug in-game shaders
- Help drive framerate and memory optimization of the game
- Provide and maintain technical documentation
- Character skinning and rigging
- Provide and create solutions to enable advanced deformation on characters and other assets that are animated\simulated.
- Proactively seek out pipeline improvements, workflows, and technology issues.
- Collaborate and communicate daily with teammates creating content.
- Collaborate with 3D Artists to ensure rigs will deform and behave in a way that is suitable for animation.
- Create rigging related scripts, tools, and plugins using industry-standard scripting and programming languages.
- Research and explore systematic solutions that solve problems and enable efficient productivity.
- Provide technical support for a variety of disciplines focusing on rigged content.
- Troubleshoot and solve problems for teammates to enable them to do their best work.
Requirements:
- 4+ years of open-world development in the game industry with 1 shipped title as a Technical or Senior Technical Artist
- Expert-level knowledge and experience in Maya
- Strong knowledge and experience developing with Python
- Solid understanding of animation production pipelines for technical, motion capture, and character animation
- Solid understanding of a game cinematic pipeline
- Ability to operate autonomously as well as part of a team
- "Roll up your sleeves" mindset to get any job done
Pluses:
- Experience with asset management and art tools such as OpenMaya, and PySide
- Familiarity with generating and supporting User Interfaces in QT.
- Experience working with game engines such as Unreal, or proprietary engines.
- Experience with other programming languages, especially C++ and OOP concepts.
- Experience with project management and tracking software (i.e. Jira, Shotgun).
- Experience working with databases and related API (i.e. MySQL)
- Experience with game performance optimization
