ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Blind Squirrel Games (BSG) is looking for a Senior Technical Artist to join us in supporting the creation of an upcoming AAA military shooter game for PC and Consoles.
Supported by the Art Director and Project Leads, the Senior Technical Artist is responsible for working with artists, designers, and engineers to identify and solve technical problems with existing tools, support in content creation when needed (such as destructible creation, rigging, writing shaders or map optimization) and a solid understanding of scripting knowledge (Python, Javascript, MAX Script, MEL).
The ideal candidate for this role has experience writing shaders and developing destructible assets and simulations for military FPS games and can translate a thorough, technical understanding of art pipelines into assistance that ensures consistent deliverables that meets project expectations and deadlines.

You are considered a master of your craft and have the leadership qualities necessary to pass that knowledge down while completing your own independent work. You’ve already spent years as a senior, indirectly mentoring your peers and gradually becoming the “go-to” person for input and solutions to both internal and external matters. You have solid cross-discipline exposure and have some experience leading small teams of artists.
This is a full-time position available to work remotely, hybrid, or based out of one of our studios located in Irvine, Austin and Auckland.
The salary range being considered for this role is $87,000-$130,000. This base pay range is for the U.S. and is not applicable to locations outside of the U.S. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance, and location.
Responsibilities- Create and modify shaders using HLSL scripting to meet project specific needs
- Develop destructible assets and simulations for cloth, cables, etc.
- Assist in the creation of ambient wildlife, including their behaviors
- Thoroughly understand the artistic and technical pipelines required for the project
- Partner with production to maintain a clear and realistic schedule
- Work directly with other artists, designers and engineers to complete beautiful and performant environments
- Other relevant duties and responsibilities as assigned to help complete company or department objectives
Qualifications and Education Requirements- Strong Python scripting experience on a shipped game title or in a related field
- Strong HLSL shader scripting experience on a shipped game title or in a related field
- 5+ years of industry experience in game development as a Technical Artist
- At least one shipped title as a Senior Technical Artist
- Portfolio website demonstrating ability to design and craft realistic, highly detailed environments and assets
Preferred Skills- Pro-active in clearly communicating issues to the team and seeking solutions
- Excellent leadership and mentoring abilities
- Intimate knowledge of art pipelines, dependencies, and overall project scope
- Well-organized and possess strong time-management skills
- Advanced understanding of Maya, Photoshop, Substance Designer/Painter, and Zbrush
- Strong foundational skills, including composition, design, structure, silhouette, and color theory
- Proficient with project management/task tracking software like Jira
Pluses- Experience in creating realistic, modern military environments
- Familiarity with Unreal Engine 5
- Additional skills in illustration, animation, visual effects, or technical art
