Senior Technical Artist (Tools and Pipeline)

Ascendant Studios is looking for a Senior Technical Artist to join our team in creating an original AAA title. Our ideal candidate has as strong background in creating studio tools to both strengthen and meet the requirements of past art teams. They should enjoy collaborating with artists and programmers alike. Prefer prior experience with animation pipelines.

This is a full time position. We are all currently working remotely due to Covid-19, but once we return the position may either be based in our office in San Rafael, CA, or remain fully remote.

What you'll do:

• Create and establish tools to support art production needs
• Work directly with artists to understand inefficiencies in their processes and create effective solutions
• Update and maintain existing toolsets already integrated into Ascendant’s pipelines.
• Readily provide mentorship to fellow Technical Artists
• Proactively work to identify and provide solutions to issues before they escalate into larger problems

Who you are:

• 5+ years of experience as a technical artist in games or related industries
• Proficient with modern software packages, such as Maya and MotionBuilder
• Strong understanding of the game development process and the technical challenges of animation pipelines
• Experienced in the optimization of both assets and pipelines
• Proficient in Python and object-oriented programming
• Self driven and excels in a fast paced development environment

Bonus points:

• Strong understanding of modern game development engines and the technologies behind them, with a preference for UE4
• Familiar with C++ or C#
• Worked on 1st person shooters and/or action games from beginning to end of a development cycle.
• Previous experience on a multiplayer title.
