Senior Technical Artist, Creative Technology
1 year ago
The opportunity
Our Creative Technology team deploys newly-developed technology for character and environment content production to special partners in the AAA gaming industry! As a senior technical artist on this team, you’ll be challenged to learn our new and in-development technical tools, and to formulate novel ways to utilize them as part of AAA content pipelines. You will work on a variety of tech stacks, including both the Unity Engine and bespoke customer platforms. You’ll help customers produce more beautiful content in less time and push innovation in artistry. You’ll build workflow tools to improve the speed at which artists can iterate on visual assets; prototyping and iterating on DCC pipelines; and build art assets to demonstrate how to achieve specific customer visual quality and performance goals.
Your day-to-day work will involve interacting directly with technical and artistic leaders; researching and delivering solutions to their content-related challenges; and formulating innovative approaches to efficiently bring content into their engine of choice. If you're a creative problem solver who enjoys finding new ways to make games beautiful, you’ll grow with our team!
This role will require occasional travel to customers’ offices for customer collaboration, or to other Unity offices for training. Travel is expected less than 25% of the time.
What you’ll be doing
- Developing tools, workflows, and scripts improving the speed and flexibility of artists who are crafting and importing content
- Co-developing models, rigs, shaders, and other art content with our partners’ art teams to demonstrate how best to integrate our new technology into their workflow
- Analyzing and discussing performance impacts and visual trade-offs of changes to processes and content with our customers
- Proactively formulate, propose, and implement improvements to assets and asset development processes while advocating for, and implementing improvements for Unity’s tools that benefit all creators
What we’re looking for
- Proven experience shipping a real-time 3D AAA game while working in an artistic or technical-artistic role
- Ability to develop and maintain workflow pipelines/scripts/tools and content creation software suites, using C#, DCC scripting languages, and Python.
- Strong artistic background and content development skills, able to build assets that have high technical skill or specialist knowledge.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English, able to clearly communicate ideas and technical knowledge
You might also have
- Familiarity with three or more of the following tools: ZivaVFX, Maya, Blender, Houdini (Vellum), ZBrush, Git, Perforce
- Experience as a technical artist, VFX technical director, or technical animator on AAA game cinematics or in the VFX industry.
- Experience creating visual content for multiple real-time game engines, such as Unity and Unreal.
