Senior Technical Animator

Cryptic Studios is looking for a talented Senior Technical Animator who is passionate about building incredible animation pipelines for unannounced future projects in Unreal. Your goal is to enable quality and performance throughout Cryptic’s animation tools, rigs and processes. The ideal candidate is highly organized, self-motivated and enjoys working collaboratively with others.
**What you’ll be doing:**
* Collaborating with animators, artists, designers, and other disciplines to define, create, maintain and streamline animation workflows, processes and pipelines
* Creating and providing support for custom animation rigs in Maya and Unreal
* Developing and maintaining animation related tools using Python and other scripting languages
* Partnering with artists to ensure that characters, weapons, props, and animations meet technical and performance standards
* Training animators in pipeline, tools, and all aspects of the animation implementation process
* Participating in R&D into current and emerging animations technologies
**What we'd like to see:**
* 5+ years console or PC game development experience, with one or more shipped titles as a Technical Animator
* Strong understanding and eye for animation
* Thorough knowledge of body and face rigs
* Proficiency with dynamic IK, physics and rigging/animation for use with those systems
* Experience implementing animation in Unreal and/or other game engines with a thorough understanding of blend trees, IK, state machines, layering, tagging and scripting
* Knowledge of performance capture pipelines, processes and data manipulation
* Tools development, training and technical documentation experience
* Strong technical ability and willingness to learn new tools, techniques and workflows
* Ability to articulate complex visual and technical ideas with clarity and conviction
* Positive, collaborative and professional attitude while working under multiple deadlines
**Pluses:**
* Experience with Blueprints for animation
* Solid foundation in traditional art, drawing, painting, illustration and/or concept art
* Knowledge of human anatomy and body mechanics
* Ragdoll/character physics experience
