Senior Tax Consultant – Global Indirect Tax

Summary

You will assist with the group’s global indirect tax filings, including monitoring changes in indirect tax rules around the world and helping us remain compliant in every jurisdiction where we have filing obligations.
You will report to the Head of Indirect Tax & Tax Technology who is based in the US. The indirect tax team sits within Aristocrat’s broader Global Tax team. Our team is based in Australia and the US, and we support and encourage flexible (including remote) working. Qualifying candidates would be based in Australia, US or the UK.

What you'll do

· Collaborate with direct tax team and fixed asset GL team to create accurate tax-basis fixed asset calculations, roll forward, deferred tax balances as it relates to depreciation, and tax depreciation forecasts; including researching discrepancies, updating ERP systems for tax only differences and tracking such differences as needed for our global businesses

· Manage daily, monthly and annual global withholding tax obligations and filings

· Compiling and ensuring accuracy and timely filing (including sign off and payment process) of global VAT returns and other related reporting

· Assist in driving the automation and scaling of indirect tax systems and processes to support Aristocrat’s rapid international growth and to allow the business to quickly respond to the evolving Digital, VAT and US Sales Tax legislation

· Assist in gathering data to support indirect tax audits.

· Lead the review of our current footprint from a “nexus” perspective, identifying potential new VAT filings and establishing a process for continued monitoring of thresholds and filing triggers using automation technology tools whenever possible.

· Based on the monitored outcome of the OECD guidance for pillar 1 and pillar 2; establish a process for identifying and complying with DST and/or new digital related tax filing obligations for all relevant group entities; prepare and file global related tax returns and establish a process for continued monitoring of thresholds and filing triggers using automation technology tools whenever possible.

· Follow compliance regarding internal global tax policies and risk controls.

· Work on complex ad hoc issues, where analysis requires both tax technical knowledge and a depth of appreciation of Aristocrat’s global business.

· Build relationships with finance leaders within the business and take responsibility for regular communication of relevant indirect tax updates.

· Respond to financial inquiries by gathering, analyzing interpreting data and summarizing the financial impact.

· Potential assistance in ongoing US Federal and State tax fixed asset reporting and forecasting; including working with the US direct tax team for updates required in systems due to book to tax depreciation differences and assisting in the deferred tax balance calculation as it relates to fixed assets.

What we're looking for

· You have a keen interest in the evolving indirect tax landscape including the taxation of the “digital economy”. We want you to be comfortable in sharing your views and experience both within the Group tax team and the wider Aristocrat finance community, to help the group stay up to date with tax law changes and to understand the possible impact of legislative proposals.

· You are curious about business, you enjoy analyzing data to help the business understand what it means from a tax perspective, and you are comfortable discussing with and making recommendations to leaders within our business.

· You are an excellent communicator, comfortable engaging with senior people in the finance and broader business teams.

· You are proactive and can work well autonomously as part of a dynamic and geographically diverse team.

· You will ideally have experience with ERP (Microsoft MAX & Dynamics 365); management reporting tools (TM1 & Anaplan) and indirect tax calculation engines (Vertex and SureTax).

· You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax or related discipline and you have at least 4 years of experience in either a multinational corporate or a large or mid-tier consulting firm.

· Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Package; especially Excel, PowerPoint and Power query

· Knowledge and experience in Alteryx, Power BI and robotic automation tools

· Familiarity with a variety of indirect tax rules, such as VAT, DST and Withholding Taxes

· Strong practical, hands-on implementation skills and ability to work independently

· Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

· Ability to handle multiple cross-functional projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment and bring them to a conclusion

· Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to work with external advisors and collaborate with other team members across the globe

· Self-driven for continuous innovation and process improvement

· Enthusiasm and drive to learn and progress

· US based roles may require registration with the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) and/or other gaming jurisdictions in which we operate.
